Just skipped the Brookwood water stop. Unless they're taking water elsewhere they're pushing it to its limits. Tornado does have a larger tender but it'll still be a close call.

Non-stop through Brookwood - I had assumed it was a water stop too.

Shows what a steam loco can do if it doesn't take water!

Assume all was well by the time 60163 got home and hadn't run dry. Did the 57 do most of the work near the end to save water?

Probably a bit cliché for me to start trumpeting my favourite loco(!), but she was powering at Andover nearing 70mph, and up the gradient into Barnes Bridge, and from other footage I've seen it seems she did all the work home. Her slightly larger water capacity seems to have helped in this situation. If she wasn't doing anything on the diesel leg of the tour, she essentially worked the train from Millbrook to London on one tank.

My take on yesterdays run, seen at Wandsworth Town, Brookwood and Southampton on the outward, followed by a near 70mph passing at Andover and accelerating up Barnes Bridge on the return:

Also not the most direct route from Millbrook to London! Plus light steam back from Victoria then a last effort after the Willesden reversal to Southall - I wonder what the gauge read at bedtime!

That looked like at least 75 through Andover, which the time recovery would support.

Does anyone have any firm information on the omission of the Brookwood water stop yesterday? Was it simply to regain time on a 'premium' working, and at what risk? Made for an interesting run back (at least from from my armchair!).

Just to illustrate the comment above, Traksy/RTT is showing the 11.34 1B22 Horsham to Bognor as passing Totton as I write this! (EDIT) But RTT is correctly showing it as a Poole to Waterloo train)

1B22 is the 06:50 from Poole to Waterloo so it would be passing Totton. It is also the 11.34 from Horsham to Bognor after it divides at Horsham from 1J22 from Victoria.
Headcodes get repeated around the network.

I do understand that - I was simply recording what Traksy showed - it wouldn't give me the Poole train at all.
