I have no recollection of this 'back in the day!' Brush 4 and a Mk1 push & pull set with a converted BSK...fascinating stuff!

North of the Thames catching up with the Southern? Some years later DVT formations were the fashion for inter city formations.

Recall reading something about this (possibly to do with Glasgow/Edinburgh push pull services or Southern Region 4TC units?)
Never seen any photos of it before though! Cheers for posting @60017 :)

The Southern Region trials for TC units were done in 1964 or 1965 pushing 4CIG units around with the shoe gear disconnected. Somewhere I remember hearing that the Railway Inspectorate attended a number of the trials due to their concern over pushing 8 car formations of trailer vehicles at up to 90mph.
If this trial was 1968, it must have been the early trials for DVT, but the concept wasn't used for another ten or 12 years. The Bournemouth mainline had been using propelled TC formations since early 1967. The question is, if the Southern had done tests and proved the concept worked, why did the ER need to run a separate development programme?

    Cheers, Neil

Different technologies? The SR experiments and implementation were with SR MU kit applied to a small sub fleet of locos (67 max, if you include the 73s and 33/1s); the ER were presumably using an alternate approach (not sure what given the 47s weren’t multiple working fitted).

Wasn't there a derailment with the coach leading?
Was it to do with Farm vehicles grounding and blocking the line?

Does anyone know what kind of condition it is in at the WSR and who owns it/what the plans for the vehicle are? Considering how important DVTs were on the WCML, ECML, East Anglia, Scottish and Chilton services the vehicle is potentially quite an important part of that development.

The 97xx DOBSs initially operated with the Class 47/7s on the Scotrail services - especially Edinburgh - Glasgow shuttles.

If you are interested @Monkey Magic, I gather from an indirect source that there are plans to re-bogie the vehicle after which it will be offered for sale. So it will not be lost to the heritage community.

I made a serious attempt to buy this in 2017 but was just too late as it had been sold. I inspected it internally and its pretty much in orignal condition albeit tired.

Im no longer in a position to put in an offer should it become available but would dearly love to see it saved and restored.

    Cheers

    Shane

The 47 on the back is given as D1938 of Cardiff - that was the blue star multiple working fitted 47, co-incidence??

I can remember this going to GWSR, was a swap for RMB 1811 (always thought GCRN got a good deal), with a plan for it to be for P Way use. Not sure why they changed their minds though @flying scotsman123 any ideas?
