Ah, no worries. It is always an uphill struggle on that website to keep the articles sensible just because a select few 'editors' decide to add things to it. A problem frequently faced by Railway editors tends to come from the 'Thomas the Tank Engine' fraternity, who delight in pointing out that certain 'real-life' classes provided the basis for their fictitious counterparts, and it has been known for entire storylines to be added to an otherwise good article. Anyway, I digress from the original topic...

Glad you like the photos. The photo is of the driver who took the train into Salisbury, and I thought he was a Nine Elms man. However, one of my colleague's father (Mr Christmas) was a Salisbury driver, and recognised the guy in the photo when he saw it, so he probably is a Salisbury driver.

Stewie, I have no intention of being political on this forum; or any other Railway forum. It is my intention of giving facts as much as I can, of what it was like as crew during the Steam era in BR days. How the Locomotives performed etc.

Sadly we are now a dying breed, at the reunions, we hear of a few more passing on to pastures new. If you want to read books, I suggest you read Jim Evans books, Jim was a mainline Driver at Nine Elms, originated from Bournemouth. I fired to him occasionally in the early years, a very nice enthusiastic man. He also gives facts. Unfortunately, you cannot relive the old days, with Mainline tours, or preserved railways. Because the 50s/60s was more intense, and I am not de-crying these, its nice to see a Steam Loco run. Nowadays on the mainline you have OTMR, which is a setback for all, as the Driver has to keep to 75 mph. In my day we had 90 mile running, and I have just recently receved some logs, when I was firing in early 60s. Which is like gold to me!

But how about Boat trains to S'oton? You only stated in the list of one that came out of nine elms at 10:35pm. Okay they were few and far between; but werent there a couple in the early hours of the morning? One around Lunch time and then the one late at night? All from Nine Elms depot?

I think he means that the Boat Trains were not regular services, they ran when the boats ran so can't be listed in the normal timetable because they ran as required. I think that's right anyway.

Thanks for your input twofnine - always interested in thoughts from the people who actually were there in the steam days . You made note of some logs you recently received -- any chance of you sharing with us mortals who weren't able to make it to the footplate, if they pertain to Bulleid runs ?
As a side thought, you mentioned the list of Nine Elms duties to the previous poster , included was the 1900 Waterloo - Salisbury - that went on to Exeter correct? I'm sure we used this service many times in the early 60's to return to Romsey via Salisbury after a hard days shed bashing in London . It was always a great way to end the day - non stop from Waterloo with a Bulleid -- but I guess it was work to the likes of yourself & comrades .
    cheers Richard

    Thanks Richard for your post.

At this present time I am sitting with the logs of those runs with the Bulleids. I will explain why. The Driver I regularly fired to, is still with us. In fact 2 are, and one is nearing the 90 mark. They will be at the Nine elms reunion in August.
They are still collecting precious materials for the slide shows in the afternoon, following lunch.

My old list clerk last year says he has a few photographs of me Driving Bulleids, and the Flying Scotsman, so If he is at the event I will make enquiries about that. Flying Scotsman was on a Special Railtour. Richard keep your eyes peeled on this link, below

If you have any photos; or any logs anybody; please send also to the Shedmaster on this site. I thank you all.
I have just edited this post. As I said in a previous post any photos would be welcome on the site below.Because we sadly have lost so may Enginemen, we now take in Salisbury, Bournemouth, Basingstoke, Eastleigh, Fratton, and Guilford Men

Eastleigh 100 website doesn't seem to be letting on what is going to be there? But 35005 is apparently going to be making an appearance?!

As for Manston and Braunton - I too am going there this year! A friend of mine is putting me up for a couple fo days; so we're off to see 34070 and 34046! I must admit I've got a more soft spot for the converteds.....
