Glad you managed to get your phone back . A mate of mine had a similar episode with video camera falling into the brambles on the lineside from an over bridge so he went home to get some lengths of timber that he’d fastened together and then attached a coat hanger on the end to hook through the hand strap on the side and thankfully it worked!

Probably not the thread to post on but I personally would like to thank all and sundry on NP for the total dedication to our hobbies be it video or pictures that has probably kept some folk entertained/happy over the last 18 months during the Covid .

Due to idiots yesterday parking stupidly at the over bridge looking back at the signalbox at Settle Junction the farmer is now one unhappy bunny as on finding he couldn’t cross over to access his land he blocked everything in and just blasted his tractor horn as the steam arrived so be warned :(

Having spoken to this farmer on a previous visit he has noted that he will TOLERATE parking on the entrance to his farm as long as the path is left clear for him to move both tractors and trailers without hindrance. On that visit he noted that had he not been on his mobile phone (i.e. driving slowly) he would have smashed into the car blocking his entrance and - since it was on his land - he would not be committing any driving offence to have done so as he was "clearing an obstruction" on his land.

On Tuesday the woman driver in a 2021-registered car was reduced to tears when the farmer parked on the bridge thus blocking both access to / exit from his farm and - initially - locked his vehicle to prevent anyone passing. Having made his point he then relented and moved his tractor to allow the woman to exit BUT be aware that in the current situation farmers are busy taking advantage of the good weather hence need unrestricted access at all times.

This is a situation where one inconsiderate driver can cause unnecessary grief to a large number of people so please BE CONSIDERATE when parking on (any) farmer's land.

A lovely warm (17C) and sunny Wednesday morning at Chapel Lane with not even the hint of a breeze. An earlier post had confirmed 46100 was at the head of today's train (thanks @free2grice). RTT confirmed RT running, Oswald was the sole occupant of the bridge and all was well with the world. After a few minutes I was joined by a lady who lived locally, although we chatted she volunteered to not to talk when I was videoing (and she admired my tripod - it's true!).

Around 09.30 Royal Scot could be heard, working hard, a crisp 3 cylinder beat, steadily the sound grew louder, then the loco burst out from under the occupation bridge, the smokebox door reflecting the sunlight. The exhaust was almost invisible as it shot skywards, a whistle for the crossing. I only got a glimpse but it may have been Mike Wylie driving; whoever it was had the loco working a treat as she blasted under the bridge. The coaches slipped by one by one and now for the 47; it was barely audible. This was all RS's own work, as honest a performance as you could wish for - with 11 coaches and a 47 (as heavy as 14 and a bit coaches), approaching the summit of 4 miles of 1/100r the speed was around 29mph (3L). Well worth the watch and certainly well worth the listen.

The going away sounds were interrupted by the lady, who had now been joined by a second very chatty lady, striking up a conversation with two young men on a tandem who were on their way to John o' Groats - a tad lost? Their destination tonight was a more reasonable Ingleton - but perhaps still a tad lost! The weather forecast for this evening has worsened in the last couple of hours, but fingers crossed. I hope that all those on board (especially members of NP and especially if they post a bit of something on here) have a good day.

On a perfect summer's morning Royal Scot provides a spectacular soundtrack as she lifts her heavy train the last few yards towards Hoghton summit. Two Scots in two days both sounding wonderful - but just a bit different. If anyone KNOWS the reason why they should be different I would like to know.
