Thanks for the replies, I'm inclined to agree with Ray that it was a pipe dream which never came to fruition. When we started the process of buying 45337 in 1983 nobody else had a reserve on it, so if the "Mid Wilts group" did exist in some form or other, it must have been prior to then.

Managed, at last, to pop in on the S & C yesterday, only had a couple of hours but thoroughly enjoyed a wander round and rode the line. Lots of interesting stuff there and the whole set up has a nice friendly 'feel' to it, shame there were only a handful of passengers but everyone seemed quite happy and you get the impression that they will succeed, in all their endeavours.
As a member of the GSN Restoration Society the high point of the visit was finally getting to see 35011 in the flesh, a long way to go but it is on the move, and with a wife's middle daughter recently moved to Stroud should be able to visit more often:).

Visited the railway today for first train, seemed busy, car park was just about full when we left. 2 in steam today Willy and 6695. Nice friendly atmosphere.

I popped in this morning too - trains busy with families and car park full when I left. Haven't seen 6695 in steam since she was based in Swanage. Great start to 2024 :)
