You were lucky as 35018 was 15 late at one point

 

Obviously it was a gamble, but there had been a bit of planning beforehand. I had actually gone to the location a couple of days earlier to check that any line side vegetation wouldn’t get in the way. I even checked which lens would be appropriate. If both trains were running to time, there was every chance that the pass would take place around Petteril Bridge. 60163 had to be allowed out of Citadel before 35018 could be allowed in. This was due to both train’s diagrammed to use the same platform in addition to the issue concerning the single line between London Road Junction and the approach to the station. No surprise that 35018 was running late as all northbound ones are at present. It was 13 late at Culgaith and booked a 10 minute water stop at Langwathby. The 5000 gallon tender could easily do without such a stop and taking the deceleration and acceleration from such a water stop into account, if no stop was taken, we would be back on time. It was right time at Low House so I thought we could be in business, and so it came to pass…

 

Think 35018 has more than 5000 gal capacity....

I didn't know that, I was just going on the tender capacity of the Merchant Navy Class when they were running in the 1960s. A secondary tank was fitted on: 46203 which increased the water capacity to 4750 gallons/ 46233 up to 5250 gallons, which allowed Hellifield to Carlisle to be done without a stop.
