Slightly more impressive than Harrow on the Hill to Moor Park, mind you that was pretty good!

Completely agree, a thoroughly modern railroad now.

Imagine the ream of H&S paperwork you would have to fill in to do it again, never mind the helicopter pilot, he would be grounded...

There is some commentary on the Youtube link which suggests it wasn't a race, but rather a parallel run, which the two locos adjusting their speed to keep pace with each other rather than try an out-and-out win. Still impressive though!

"In researching the run up Cajon Pass I learned that it really wasn't a race, according to crew members both engine crews were in communication and adjusted speed so they could run up the pass together."

So why is it titled, "Race up Cajon", as you say, its very very impressive, the smoke trail, down towards LA at the start of the pass, at San Beradinho is worth watching for alone.

The answer to the first is “I don’t know - maybe the poster thought it was more catchy” and the answer to the second is “no”. Chill!

Dresden features similar parallel runs at each annual festival, but no H & S paperwork problems there of course.

If you watch any of the Virtual Railfan cameras on YouTube, it seems to be the in thing to post things like "Race!" in the discussion box when you have two trains running in the same direction on adjacent tracks. Same goes for "Meet!" if two trains pass each other in opposite directions. The Americans seem to get worked up over such things.....

So that's why trains in Europe are constantly late.... I live in the suburbs of Berlin and how tired I am of being late for work every time because of these trains. I hate my job, which I have to get up at 5 o'clock in the morning and wait another hour for this train. These machinists are not doing their job well. I have to visit the db fahrplanauskunft every time to watch the train schedule and not be late, because my boss constantly says that he will fire me for being late. I hope that someday they will invent teleportation and I will not have to get up at 5 in the morning and go to work. I want my children not to have to wait for the train for two or three hours just like me.

As over 95% of German trains arrive within 5 mins, and 99% within 15 mins, you seem to be extremely badly served around Berlin.
