Apparently a nickname for a Class 31. Originated from "Gargoyle" after the (so-called) ugly headcode boxes on the roof. A new one on me too!

And did you see the evidence of why BRCW stands for Birmingham Rust and Corrosion Workshops?

You old smoothy. You certainly know how to give a girl a good time.

I have no desire to find out the origin of the 'Ped' nickname.

I couldn't find the loco roster on the website any more (I notice lots of railways have dispensed with these in the last couple of years!).
Is there any way of finding out what might be running. I'm in the area 28/08-04/09.
I don't mean someone predict now, I mean how can I find out at the time!

Cracking day out with the 31 yesterday at the North Norfolk, my first railway day out since January last year, very much enjoyed the 31 as did the good lady. Was rather nice it worked on 3 rakes of stock so we had the quads, MK1 set and the subs, Ms 6968 rather liked the Subs (she found them comfortable enough to have a little snooze!) I’d just like to say a big well done to all involved. What a smashing railway.

There are vicious rumors circulating that after many many months of repairs that 7F 53809 "might" be emerging from the shed and running some services during the week you have listed...

Outside with a warming fire on Sunday. We were told it had been tested during the previous week, issues identified and attended to and it was due to be retested this week.

Great to see the 7F out of the shed. Well done to all those who put in so much hard work and effort to get it running.

so I assume now that the 7F is staying on the NNR for the long term?

Wasn’t there a long term contract signed pre COVID?

I was under the impression that when the 7F arrived a long term contract was hoped for but wasn’t certain

I could well be wrong but I remember one of the mags reporting 89’s owners had signed a long term agreement (25 years?) sometime ago, I was rather pleased because I’ve yet to underline 89 yet unlike 88 which I’ve nothing against but over the years I’ve become more than very well acquainted with!

Managed to see ‘89 in service in 2019 but wasn’t performing it’s best that day

For anyone interested - the rostered locos this weekend are LNER B12 8572 and S&D 7F 53809. The latter having past its running in tests this week following significant rebuilding of the engine's suspension.

From a wonderful viewpoint at Poole Grammar School in the very early 60s 7fs,4fs and Black 5s were to be seen getting up speed for the Parkstone Bank climb. Great to see 53809 in steam.
    oops forgot the 2Ps!

    Visited today - 30th August.

I was surprised to see that the line wasnt as busy as I might have expected for a bank holiday.

We arrived at 12 and went for lunch - middle son pronounced his cheeseburger excellent, while 53809 came in then left. It was very good to see that once she had gone a member of staff was walking along the track picking up litter. It was also interesting to look into the MK1 Suburban's that made up the bulk of 53809's train.

Then, in she came, the B12, who says Edward Thompson cant turn out a looker, every inch a thoroughbred on a train of MK1's. Nice to see it also included a CCT which gave a good impression of what a 'loco hauled' train might have looked like until the early 80's.

Again while the exteriors were a little 'end of season' my wife commented very favourably on the overall condition of the train & stations, clean tidy and the staff obviously have pride in the job. Interesting to see a table in our second class compartment which was as on our visit two years ago clean and in excellent condition.

After our first trip when the B12 demonstrated her mastery of the job my sons and I did another round trip, the last steam service of the day.

At Weybourne crossing with the DMU brought back memories of a mis-spent youth. The DMU's are looking a bit 'tired' but seemed clean inside.

A good day out, with 4 meals, two cakes and assorted drinks all bought from the railway emphasising the importance of catering.
