Yesterday it was requested to be at Pickering as a farewell gesture to a recently deceased NYMR volunteer whilst the funeral cortege passed by. Today, it will be in service on the P2 turn, and will replace 80136.

Another episode of my 1992 NYMR video is now on my YouTube channel if anyone would like to have a look. It covers a journey from Pickering to Newtondale Halt behind a WD 2-10-0:

    Hope it's of interest.

It looks like the crew of the new Mission Impossible Film might be getting ready to crash the train that was used on the NYMR earlier this year as the director has posted two new pictures on social media today. Farewell to the "Britannia class" clone!!!

Appears 20142 collided with the stock for the 09.00 Pickering - Whitby at Grosmont. No injuries from reports, but no mention of damage to loco or stock. RAIB called.

I've seen 20189 mentioned so it could be either but looks like a class 20 is involved

I was at Pickering on the 12.00 for Whitby. 10 min before departure an announcement that the train would terminate at Goathland. Subsequently many rumours flying around but nothing reliable worth passing on.

The timetable has been thrown well out of kilter today. I saw the 12:00 ex Pickering arrive several minutes late at Goathland but it did depart northbound. Seems it was caped at Grosmont due to an earlier “incident”.

I happened to see the 'incident' on the Grosmont webcam. I thought the 20 was coming in a tad fast, nose first, and fully expected a last second application of brakes, but this did not appear to happen, and there was a loud clunk as the engine met the carriages. There was no apparent derailment, and nobody ran around in panic mode. It appeared that passengers were quickly escorted from that end carriage without undue fuss, and the situation was dealt with calmly. After a couple of minutes the 20 moved a few yards away from the carriage, and then shut down it's engines. I had to go somewhere else so can't fill you in on subsequent activities - the webcam stream was down a short while later when I returned.

    Actually 20189.

It had substituted for 76079 on the 10.00am from Whitby due, we were told, to an issue with the AWS on the steam loco. 20189 came off at Grossmont where we were parallel to the 09.20 from Pickering headed by 825. 76079 was attached to our train and then there was might be called a heavy shunt to the rear of 825's train caused by 20189. The carriages of 825's train and 20189 were then kept in the platform all day pending inspection.

When we returned to Whitby on the 1500 from Pickering it was with the class 37 on the front (scheduled would have been 825) and 80136 on the rear. The carriages from 80136's train were stabled at Pickering and its 14.00 from there and 16.30 return from Grosmont didn't operate. The class 37 came off our train at Grosmont to be replaced by 20142 for the trip into Whitby. There were a significant number of passengers waiting at Whitby to return to Pickering so presumably as Realtime trains shows both NYMR services in the middle of the day cancelled they were either bussed in or had used the Northern Trains service from Grosmont.

It wasn't caped at Grosmont but went on through to Whitby running about half an hour late. The crew were scheduled a PNB at Grosmont so a spare driver and fireman (me!) were found to cover the Whitby leg. On return to Grosmont the loco (76079) went to the shed for water and I headed for home so I have no idea how things panned out after that.

This demonstrates that we shouldn't always believe RTT which is also showing the train we arrived back at Whitby on (IT18) as cancelled.
