Me too. I travelled 200 miles to go on that trip. Not been with VT since.

Can’t get there for the morning run but will book on the afternoon one assuming we can get back to Soton by train. Just hope there will be no DL. Have NR agreed it yet?

Yes but it seemed to me on the straight ish bits of track like between Swindon and oxford banbury when the train was doing 60+ mph or 75mph it did seem like the diesel was assisting cos I couldent see no smoke streams coming off the exhaust off clun castle nor could I hear her 4 cylinder roar at high speed but there again I were sat I coach E 3 away from D 47773 that's my opinion anyhow on today's tour I stand to be proved wrong though on this when 7029 was on the fast straight bits of track, but yes a superb climb up Sapperton bank plenty of thunder from the 4 cylinder castle without the 47 shoving us.

Wrong place again !. Naturally half a mile to the north the sun shone.

The least number of people I have ever seen on the famous skew bridge, now barely recognisable in the rain forest.

Clun provides a wonderful soundtrack – but not a single video camera in sight, to record this memory of W A Camwell's SLS specials attacking the bank back in real steam days. 7029 Hatton lr.jpg

There's nothing yet on RTT to show what happens between arrival of the ECS at Canton sidings and return from there to Central. Most likely would seem turning just the loco and GUV on the Penarth curve triangle.

Is that now possible again. I thought there were issues which is why all recent tours have reversed at Newport and have been diesel hauled from there. Of course I believe RTT does not show that happening either.

The outbound trip shows a reversal at Park Jn, between Newport and Cardiff. Presumably this is the triangle.

What a bizarre concept. Why on earth would a diesel be assisting on the downgrade? Castles are tremendously free running locomotives and don't make much smoke when running at speed.

It certainly wasnt working as it passed through Oxford at speed with the Castle still opened up. Nor was it working leaving Banbury as my video clip confirms. But there were three heads out of the support coach window. ''Do what I say, not what I do'' !!

Thank you. I had looked for a reversal at Maindee and missed seeing the one at Park Jn.

Here's my footage of Clun Castle destroying and roaring up Sapperton and Hatton in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the famous SLS Special. I hope you enjoy the video.

Glad to see the excellent videos of yesterday's train. The SLS is alive and kicking with our website at https://www.stephensonloco.org.uk/

    It is indeed a triangle.
Gaer Jn to Park Jn is quite unusual track with no booked passenger service.
Park Jn to Ebbw Jn is regularly covered by Cardiff -Ebbw Vale TfW services.

    Cheers, Neil

From Dec 21 there will be a Cross Keys to Newport service using the Gaer to Park chord but it's odd for a railtour to turn there. Perhaps Maindee is OOU that weekend?

Could be related to the engineering possession which prevented the original routing to Hereford in the first place.
