Beautiful day out on tornado from Hull Paragon railway station and from what I've heard only A4 60022 Mallard is the only loco to do preservation era tours out of Hull Paragon besides A1 60163 tornado making history yesterday (I could be wrong on that i only heard that off another nat pres member on the Ribblehead rambler I dident know his nat pres name though about 60022. But anyhow it was my 1st tour out and back to Hull I know other tours via Bridlington and Filey have used the line to hull mainly from the Gilberdyke direction and the last been the east yorkshireman to scarborough with a 5MT 44871 I think? But using the Hessle jct avoiding Hull Paragon. Anyhow heres my pics of 60163 at Hull Paragon and Carlisle Citadel and I hope everyone on board this rare bit special A1ST tour enjoyed a memorable day out especially any railway men who may have worked at Hull Dairycoates 50B or Hull botanic gardens 50C Who have fond memories of Hulls dock railway network and M.P.D. pre 1968. 20211001_023600.jpg 20211001_023458.jpg

I would add 5305 and 48151 to the list of steam locos to have visited Paragon since 1968. 5305 several times in the early 80s, it was based in Hull remember.

60800 may have visited on 12/9/99 - the route says steam hauled Doncaster - Hull - York - Scarborough which would suggest it visited the station, maybe someone can confirm.

First mainline steam I ever saw was Bittern as No 19 - it worked Hull -Scarborough circa 1972. In the 1980's 777 Sir Lamiel definitely worked out of Paragon also 5000 when it was in the care of the SVR (I remember my disappointment that of all of the other preserved loco's we could have seen at my home station it would be another Black 5 - I'd seen nothing other than 5305 at the time!). 34092 visited but only for filming I think

I was at Nafferton and Scarborough that day.
I got a lovely shot of 19 on the embankment near Reighton in full sun with a stormy black sky in the background.
When I got the slides back, that one was missing! To satisfy myself that I actually took it I took the slides either side out of the mounts and checked the numbers.
Sure enough I had slides 15 and 17.....but no number 16!

777 Sir Lamiel departing Hull Paragon for Bridlington, Scarborough and York on the hottest day of the year in 1982 believe it or not 18th September.

Yes, it did, as my picture shows. Unfortunately, it used a less photogenic platform than the one used by Sir Lamiel, and the weather was not to the same standard either...
