@Will RL, with the reduced number of carriages, will my 'Bubble booking' for two people still have exclusive use of a table?

Well a duchess can quite easily handle the lickey bank climb with 7 coaches on it but will still be a slog up the 1 in 37 at a guess and also for 7029 depending on if its unassisted I just hope in 2022 if V.T. do another lickey banker tour possibly with a bit of luck 9466 can make a appearance next time next year hopefully.

If there is rain in the forecast the night before I reckon the 47 will be out to play !

This is just hilarious. Now you're all complaining about nothing on the back of a tour!

    Make your minds up.

I suspect many may forget there is a cost to putting 9466 on the main line , in terms of inspections, certification and possibly a test run , all in addition to the steaming fee to add a good shove up the back . It also I suspect has commitments at Ecclesbourne so a fine balance in terms of its availability

Seven coaches I presume indicate one of two possibilities . Ticket sales are not quite as hoped or a little compression of seating to accommodate passengers in the carriages within the engines limits

No one has commentated yet that 6233 I presume Diesel assistance will be on the back for the Bristolian trip a few weeks earlier

Another thing that people seem to forget is that Vintage Trains have in essence had to start all over again after the covid enforced lockdown .Build a new operational team and navigate a number of challenges on initial tours . Reputation is hard fought and easily lost and that cuts both ways with Network Rail as much as prospective passengers

One of the aspects coming through on various main line tour threads is a self righteous expectation of what you want delivering . I wholeheartedly encourage you to try and arrange your own main line tour . No reflection of the TOC but my involvement in the WHSB took about ten years off my life and showed you need the patience of a saint, negotiating skills of the UN and balls of titanium

So when you have successfully run the fantasy tour of your dreams please then feel free to criticize the efforts of those current railtour operators

Some will remember that 5690 Leander hauled 6 coaches unassisted up the Lickey Bank some years ago (2006?). My recollection was that the weather was indifferent. She appeared to have plenty in hand. I think the Duchess should have no trouble with 7. I'd be slightly more concerned for the Castle but Clun is, I think, a little stronger than Nunney. In any case, these will be runs not to miss. Those not lucky enough to get a seat will probably be watching from the adjacent fields!

For reference, the SVR’s 48773 once did nine, it was flat out at the top on that load mind and I think the consensus was not to try it again iirc…

9466 is currently at the SVR and has been running on service trains there. It is only a short (test run?) from there to Tyseley - so that was clearly the plan.

I suspect the issue is indeed certification - perhaps there are unexpected works required to get it fit for mainline, which can not be completed in time for testing etc.
The only mainline runs she had booked were these two, so viability of any works must also be questioned
I do wonder why the Duchess and Castle couldn't bank each other, say swapping at Birmingham or Worcester? Not authentic, but would allow viable loads.
I suspect on the day, the 47 will be positioned at Bromsgrove in cases of issues.[/QUOTE]

The website still shows 9466, presumably because they just haven't got round to updating it.

The website also says that the trains will turn at Worcester. Normally that would involve a loco of some sort on the other end, which presumably would have been the pannier. With that absent, there are some possibilities:
a diesel just for the turning moves, which would need paths to and from Worcester but could shadow the train and help in emergency,
tip the punters out, do a short propelling move to the sidings, turn the loco (plus GUV and support but not the rest of the train) on the triangle, and propel back into the station,
as the second, but take the whole train through Foregate Street and have a very long propelling move back into the station.

The last seems least likely, but we'll see in due course.

No point in making announcements on here. Nobody reads them. And if they do, all they do is moan.

Might as well give up and go to the pub.
