    Thanks @Tobbes

I don’t fully understand your point. User names preserve anonymity where transparency could, for example attract reprisals. Hence Parliament has provided us with Statutory protection under the DPA18. Most people get hung up on the GDPR but this is just a regulation and not actually UK law.

Perhaps you could tell me what you have to gain from knowing my name?

By all means I have no issue if you wish to ditch your screen name.

I find myself in a similar situation to @Tobbes . I joined the L&B Trust quite recently after a holiday visit to the line, live in Scotland and know none of the personalities involved.

I too would prefer to put a name to ConRod1's posts but respect his/her right to use a nomme de guerre. I do the same myself.

What I have observed is that @ConRod1 joined this forum very recently, apparently in order to air his/her side of the story. Many stories can be interpreted in more than one way. Is this one of them?

There is no reason for any poster on here to give their name, and many well respected posters are effectively anonymous. However, they have a track record behind them that lends credibility - or otherwise - to their postings. As @Glenmutchkin sagely observes, @ConRod1 both lacks that track record, and is posting pretty robustly on a single matter. At that point, their anonymity does nothing to enhance their credibility in this neutral's eyes, and begs questions about agenda and motive.

There's one thread we don't certainly want this one to emulate! :Wideyed:

I would agree with that point of view. The constitution requires x number of Trustees to retire by rota at each AGM, which they have done. Whether or not the election for replacements has taken place IMHO is irrelevant. I accept that in the meantime the remaining Trustees will have to shoulder the extra workload, but it will only be until the election has been re-run and not for the whole year to the next AGM.

    >>>> ....Tony Nicholson.... points to the fact if any errors were made (and he denies that they were), then they were made by Tony Nicholson the Company Secretary, not by Tony Nicholson the Trustee. He would be happy to resign as Company Secretary and leave that position's duties to another, but insists he remain a Trustee as it was not as a Trustee that he was responsible for the conduct of the election....

An arguable point IMHO. However, if we assume for a moment that the holder of the post of Company Secretary (ComSec) is indeed responsible for the conduct of the election, who then - if not the Board of Trustees - is responsible for ensuring that the holder of that post is performing their job correctly? IE who is the ComSec's 'line manager', or is (s)he answerable to no-one?

I still hope that - behind the scenes and off social media....discussions are going on between all parties to resolve this situation and retain the valued contributions, of the past and for the future, of all the individuals. Volunteers are often hard to find and many do not want additional responsibilities, retaining good people is crucial.
I'm sure all concerned want to see a vibrant, growing, L & B Railway.

I would expect that the Company Secretary is responsible to the Board of Trustees.

A few months back there were numerous negative and critical posts on a thread connected with the extension of another line. The person concerned only posted to that thread. The name was in the profile and it turned out to be a particularly vocal opponent of the extension.
Sometimes we think that only railway supporters read this forum but this is clearly not the case and so we should be careful what we say.

Taking something of a pragmatic view. [OK this is a totally informal forum] All this toing and froing will in the long term make for a well balanced, well organised and well run Railway once it has been as fully as possible rebuilt/opened. With most points of view being served and promoting the line, the area and all it stands for.

That is what I would expect also. In which case, if the ComSec happens also to be a Trustee as well (nothing wrong in that AFAIK), then surely - in his/her role as Trustee - they share corporate responsibility for ensuring that the task is performed correctly?

A change of subject, now. Jo Roesen, who normally writes the Heritage Herald blog for the GWSR, is also an Exmoor Associates member, and travelled down for their AGM.
The second part of his latest blog contains some lovely views of Chelfham and Bratton, and is well worth a read:

This letter was sent to L&BR volunteers so one can take it @ConRod1 is a volunteer, I received my copy via another volunteer, what was posted was the main body of the email but the heading has not, it explains that this summary of the AGM was sent to both the trustees and the directors of the L&BR Trust and CIC to highlight any inaccuracies along with the suggestion that it be sent out with the new ballot papers to inform members as to why this point has been reached , no response was received so it has been sent out to the volunteers with a footnote to share to as many members as possible hence probably why it has been posted on here,

A very interesting and discriptive write up for the activities in the Yeo Valley, incidentally the new finials for BFS have been finished and are air drying prior to being fired

I'd be interested in a picture. The only clue to their shape on line comes in a model of the building that is for sale. Looks like a splay of feathers.

@ConRod1 simply passed on an account of the foul up written by an individual who was named. That account seems valuable. If anyone considers it to be misleading, they are welcome to publish their own version of the story. Anyway, don't shoot the messenger.
