The cholsey railway has a new building that was being thrown away from somewhere so maybe another one can be found to put up that has a roove over the tracks. This would make a nice station so they could talk to them on where to get a station. It was in steam railway manger zone

Will they be pushing along the other great western engine for the gala. This would make a good double header but is also a better idea for gals in the future on other lines as the can have double the engines but lower the carbon immersions. It will be a good chance for engines like evening star and butler Henderson to run again

Are you suggesting that a locomotive not in steam is pushed along by another? What planet are you on?

Let's start with a conversation about lubrication.

TVR No.28 will be spending the gala on prominent static display at Bronwydd Arms. At just after 3pm, we'll be lining up 5526 alongside it (so that people can get a photograph of both locos together, in the same livery).

Thanks to members of both the TVR No.28 group and the Welsh Train Project for arranging for TVR No.28 to play a (static) part in this year's gala event; it'll be a rare opportunity to photograph the locomotive outside of Llwyfan Cerrig yard, prior to it's restoration starting.

Copies of both the public and working timetables will be available by the end of the week, all being well. The plan is for an interesting timetable (first train 10.15, preceded by a steam-hauled goods at 09.45) running during the daytime, as well as an evening train (6pm ex Bronwydd Arms with 5526, back by 8pm). Normal tickets are valid on all trains.

At just after 12.30pm, we'll be doing a short informal ceremony to mark 25 years since the Caerphilly Railway Society moved to the Gwili. This will be performed in front of TVR No.28 (a highly appropriate loco for the occasion), with D2178 symbolically stood behind. (Both locos have long associations with the CRS).

At just after 2.30pm, there will be an official opening of The Bookshed. This will be performed by railway author MRC Price (who wrote a few of the South Wales books published by Oakwood Press).

This will then be followed by the photo line-up with 5526 and TVR No.28 at just after 3pm.

We're also running a late afternoon special ("The Carmarthen Express"): a double-headed non-stop trip from Abergwili Junction to Danycoed (via Bronwydd Arms) in the uphill direction. 4pm ex Bronwydd Arms, returns by 5.10pm.

Timetable to follow later this week. If you've got any questions, do get in touch. Looking forward to seeing some of you there.

    Diolch,

    Phil.

More progress on the vintage carriages as the painstaking work continues on the doors of GWR 216 and the new spring hanger bolts are being completed for TvR220.

Some more pics from the last day or so, putting together gas lamps for GWR 216, anyone got a manual? Also 5526 on shed and ballasting ongoing. A teaser for the gala as well.

    regards

    Hi all,

A quick reminder that the Gwili Railway is holding it's End of Season Gala this weekend. Locos in action will be 5526, Moorbarrow and D2178.

    Public timetable: https://bit.ly/3oqXCW1
    Working timetable: https://bit.ly/3FdYxyX
    Gala programme: https://bit.ly/3l6ldJj

A copy of the Gala Guide (which will be given out with each ticket) is also attached.

    Highlights include:
12.35 at Bronwydd Arms: short informal ceremony to mark 25 years since the Caerphilly Railway Society brought their collection to the Gwili Railway. The ceremony will be held alongside TVR No.28.

14.30 at Bronwydd Arms: Official opening of ‘The Bookshed’ (by noted railway author MRC Price).

15.05 at Bronwydd Arms: photo line-up with 5526 and TVR No.28 (until 15.35).

    ----------

There will also be an intensive timetable all day, including evening trains with 5526. There will also be a morning and afternoon goods train (9.45am with Moorbarrow, 2pm with 5526), as well as shunting at Bronwydd Arms between trains. D2178 will also be giving footplate rides at Bronwydd Arms between 1pm and 2.30pm.

The 4pm off Bronwydd Arms will be the 'Carmarthen Express' (carrying a replica of the headboard used on mainline steam in West Wales in the 1980s). This will be a 'backwards' round trip of the railway; ie to Abergwili Junction first, then a double-headed non-stop run in the 'down' (uphill) direction over the full length of the line (5526 leading, Moorbarrow inside). The train returns to Bronwydd Arms at 5.15pm.

    Trade/display stands booked to be with us are;

    - Llanelli & Myndd Mawr Railway
    - South Wales Railcar Group
    - Garw Valley Railway
    - Gwili Railway Preservation Society
    - Welsh Railway Trust (TVR No.28)
    - Dean Forest Railway
    - Llanelli & District Model Engineers (live steam traction engines etc)
    - Gloucester Carriage & Wagon Museum
    - RCTS South Wales Group
    - West Wales Modellers (16mm live steam)
    - Login Station Heritage Display (‘Cardi Bach’ line)

These will all be based at Bronwydd Arms station.

Event parking will be at Bronwydd Arms Village Hall (SA33 6BE): continue over the level crossing on the B4310, and in the village. Bronwydd Arms station carpark will be for blue badge disabled, exhibitor and volunteer parking only. A frequent bus shuttle (Ffoshelig Coaches) will run between the Village Hall and the station between 9.30am and 5.30pm. The last bus will connect with the last ‘up’ arrival at 5.10pm at Bronwydd Arms; if that train is running late, the bus will wait.

If you are intending to travel on the evening train (6pm ex Bronwydd Arms), parking will be available in the station carpark from around 5.15pm onwards as exhibitors leave.

    ---------------

If you've got any questions, please do ask. Looking forward to seeing some of you there.

    Diolch,

    Phil.

In between the fun of the gala work continues on GWR 216, droplights being glossed, door lock repairs, putting together the gas lights, door repairs window frame painting and the 1001 other jobs on-going.

A further update as the mahogany panels are being fixed to the doors and the gas lamps are going together. Also a picture of Aberaeron signal box with the gutters now fixed, starting to look the part.

Many thanks to @Sidmouth and friends for arranging a charter today, our first for 13 years. I’m sure that there will be better efforts then mine but gives a flavour of the day…

    regards
