Tickets suggest it will be 45699 (or whatever guise it is in at the moment). Will be nice to get some more mileage with it - one of those locomotives that eludes (or is that evades?) me for long periods of time.

It is and thanks to 47746 the train is nice and warm even with most of the windows open, but even ftom coach G next to the back, Galatea could be clearly heard up Miles Platting.

Great trip behind 45699 Galatea (Galberta Leonne)on Sunday not sure how much shovege was going, could not hear it in coach D but the Jubilee could be heard to be working hard at times, top speed just topped 70mph heading down the Hope Valley route

There were a few times until Manchester Victoria where the diesel gave a shove but the jubilee was still working hard though

I managed a quick word with Peter Kirk at Wigan, he said that rail head conditions were poor and he had to call for assistance a few times, the worst being Golborne Curve where he said a delay there coming onto the WCML would have been unacceptable. Anyway a good day out and also a chance to put more faces to names. :)

My efforts from yesterday evening at Wigan N.W. of Garlbertaleonne aka 45699 I hope everyone who went on the peaks express had a good day out on a bit of rare track nowadays from Nunnery lane jct to Beighton jct and along the Erewash valley line via Toton yards and back up the Derby to Dore jct midland mainline very rarely done by steam tours nowadays and back along the hope valley line on a nice fast return into Manchester, P.S. I hope a similar tour might run like the Peaks express for 2022 to give other enthusiasts a chance to do the Derby midland main lines.

Worth a drive to Leyland to watch this? I thought so. I set off, and being so used to watching evening trains at Wilpshire, turned off from my intended route in the Wilpshire direction. What a silly old Oswald I am. A detour of a few hundred yards returned me to my planned route.

Leyland station at almost 8 pm on a Sunday night was unexpectedly(?) deserted. I set up on the northern end of the up fast platform; a check on RTT led me to question the wisdom of this decision. The Peaks Express had departed Wigan NW 5L and the Euston bound train (which passes through the up fast platform) was running 7L; I was at risk of being bowled. Somehow, could it be that very useful diesel on the back, the steam was reducing the deficit (and quickly).

Then a noise in the distance, carried in my direction by a chilly southerly breeze. Quickly, very quickly the noise grew louder and a light could be seen, then a hint of smoke and suddenly the front of the loco - it was charging along. The exhaust illuminated by the station lighting was perfectly following the line of the catenary, the briefest glimpse of an orange glow from the footplate, then the carriages shooting by, a red reflection from the stop signal at the end of the up platform. Finally the diesel flashed by, making little noise - nor should it on a falling gradient. 1E and around 67 mph and home for 8.30 pm where Mrs W was struggling with a deadly killer (sudoku).

45627(45699) Is seen starting away at New Mills Jct then Chinley. The return was captured at Duffield and Milford Tunnel. Credit to WCR for the intention of running without diesel. The conditions throughout the day were less than ideal.
