    Afternoon All,

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway held a 1960s weekend last month with appropriate cars and music to compliment the trains. I took a few feet of video footage and the first instalment is now on my YouTube channel:

    Hope you like it.

    TTFN,

    Ron.

Thanks for sharing, was great to see what the Ivatts looked like with traditional IOW names on their sides, even if it was only temporary and just effectively stickers applied below the BR crests.

Technically I'd imagine if such an event did happen, the nameplates would have been above the crests, with the crests being lowered down a bit too? That seems to be what they did with the Adams O2s, but they may have done it differently if Ivatt tank engines were brought over, and in the end it was a nice fun what if scenario to see portrayed.

Lovely vid .... thanks for sharing. The only thing nicer to see than the (splendidly turned out) stock was a reasonably healthy number of punters on the day. Had 2-6-2Ts found their way to the island in 1966/7, you have to imagine renumbering in the "W" sequence being applied, maybe the BR crest might've sat where the 41xxx/84xxx number is, giving a whole tankside for the nameplates?

(I wonder ...... how does the guaging profile of the Ivatts compare with the 484s? Not that I'm thinking of anything else at all ..... honest.)

I'm glad you like the video; further episodes will appear in the fullness of time.

An intriguing 'what if' had history been different. I, too, thought that the Ivatts should have been temporarily renumbered in the Wxx series as that would have completed the illusion. Whether they would fit through Ryde Tunnels is another matter!

Well, there were people going around saying that the D78s wouldn't fit let alone an Ivatt 2-6-2T!

Ah yes I overlooked that, I'd agree they should have been renumbered too, but as it was only a one time for this event alone I can't blame them for going a more straightforward approach. That said you never know what the future might bring, it's possible in the future someday the IOWSR might have a change of heart and decide to give them the full IOW treatment with the appropriate names and numbering too. Can never dismiss the possibility, certainly seeing from what I learned it was no stipulation by the previous owners (Ivatt Trust) as a condition of gifted the engines to the railway that they couldn't give them IOW guises. Rather it was the IOWSR itself that made the decision.

So the door is always open to the idea being reconsidered sometime down the line. Never say never.

We can never know what BR might have done if they had transferred some Ivatts to the Island. They might have renumbered them into the Wxx series, or they might have simply left them as they were. We can but speculate.

The comment might have been a bit tongue in cheek, but had steam continued after 1966 it probably would have been painted in the corporate blue. It happened on the VOR!

Now, who's got the paint brush?...:)/:( (delete as applicable)

There was never any plan to send any of the 41XXX Ivatt's to the Isle of wight.
The loco's would have been the Standard 2MT 84XXX, of which 84014 was transferred to Eastleigh, but the scheme was then dropped in favour of electrification.

Were the 84xxxs smaller than the Ivatts?

Basically the same thing, but with a different cab layout and other slight aesthetic and detail differences

Were there any tweaks employed to accommodate loading gauge factors?

The cab sides on the BR class 2s sloped in towards the top to clear the BR loaing gauge. The cabs on the LMS ones were straight
