I can't see how this beautiful piece of machinery is being debated, personally this is the future of all newlybuilds! :Joyful:

Smaller, lighter, more economic engines to work on the lighter lines, less coal and water needed to power it and more over, will work with any train you give it! :D

Not too sure about the NYMRs famously less than lightweight dining train and noting that an Ivatt "Mickey Mouse" looks like a power lifter at Haven Street, but pretty much anything or anywhere else, I'd reckon you're spot on. :)

I always appreciate the superb updates and I'm really looking forward to seeing this beauty in steam!

I am too! Although I reckon it MIGHT pull NYMR's dining train, don't forget these machines would haul 8 coaches on the former Minehead branch.

It's stronger than it looks! :D

.... but there's a bit of a difference between < 1mile of 1 in 65 on the WSR and nearly 3 miles of 1 in 49 at the NYMR.

Not forgetting the effect of the curves as well.
I am sure @Steve will confirm.

I wouldn't even bet a small Mars Bar on 2999 managing a diner on the NYMR. In fact, I wouldn't bet much on it doing anything that requires any real effort until it is sorted.

I think this statement needs modifying to something on the lines of:: "but there's a bit of a difference between < 1mile of more or less straight 1 in 65 on the WSR and nearly 3 miles of heavily curved 1 in 49 at the NYMR".

If you'd care to trawl YouTube there are a selection of videos showing Lady of Leg End with a pretty bad leak from both [but on occasion the right] cylinders. There's plenty of steam billowing from the rear of the right cylinder in particular.

Considering all steam engines have those problems, it's a bit panickaty choosing an engine that has only been in service 2 years.

The other side of the argument is it’s effectively a new loco so shouldn’t have such problems.

Though on the other other side of the argument, it was a patch built project, so would have some kinks.

I've no complaints on that score. Dunno about you, but for me, the idea of being able to see a 'Saint' in the flesh would've seemed completely impossible not so long ago and anyone claiming we'd see either a 'Grange' or either flavour of 'County', let alone a '47' would've been carted off!

As great as this debate is this thread isn’t really the place - perhaps the 2999 thread is the place to continue the discussion ;)

Of course the Moors does have that ability to sort the wheat from the scrap, OOPS chaff. When it comes to visiting engines. Anyway back to 82045, folks;)

    I concur!
82045 is going to be one of those machines that everyone is going to want and see, ironically being a Swindon engine, it would look so nice on Watercress, Swanage and Bluebell branches, as they were scene in Dorset in days of yonder.

With over three weeks until our next regular fix from 82045.org.uk? OK ... I'll do my best! :Angelic:
