Does it count as squabbling? It seems to me we're mostly seeing one or two individuals accusing the management of incompetence and deafness. Can the said management please tell us their side of the various stories?

I don't think there is anyone on NP from what could be considered L&B 'management' which makes it even more bewildering why the protagonists keep expecting answers on here or why we should accept their side of the story as fact.

    Nice one, Howard.
Unfortunately, the likes of Gerry Fiennes were always a rarity, and these days, that breed of man is probably extinct.
But yes, someone with both vision and exceptional communication skills is required.

At the time of the 'Chelfham incident' in 2018 I had some private correspondence with a 'member of the management' in which I queried how such a thing could happen when the railway had a SMS (Safety Management System) in place. I found the responses rather 'interesting' and illuminative of the situation at that time.

Sadly I have mislaid some of that material now, but from what remains and my recollection the situation was roughly as follows:-
    1. The SMS was for the 'railway' and therefore was held by the CIC as the operating company.
    2. The SMS did not cover places such as Chelfham, even though it belonged to the CIC, as it was not part of the 'operational railway' and the workforce there were members of the Trust not the CIC.
    3. The SMS did not cover EAST, even though the work being done there contributed towards the operation of the railway (by providing rolling stock), instead it '....operates under an approved scheme of work with certain persons having delegated responsibility from the Trust....'
    4. The SMS did not cover Rowley Farm, even though apparently at that time the work there was being supervised by a CIC member.
    5. Perhaps most surprisingly '...the SMS only applies at WB and then only when the railway is actually operating as such. The SMS does not apply for example during an engineering possession....' !!

At the time I discussed the situation with some of my contacts who have considerable experience with SMSs and they found the responses quite concerning, especially item 5.

Hopefully the situation is better now and continuing to improve as necessary, but it may help to throw some light on the background to the 'Chelfham incident' in light of the recent comments in this thread about the communication (or lack thereof) between WB and Chelfham at that time.

I read with interest the last post by Ghost ... REALLY ... Ghost appeared back in 2010 when the Engineer had a lot to say about the then issues surrounding the L&B and his property the welltrol and issues about Gertrude. And van 23 and projects and EA .
Do you think the readers dont know who is behind the psudo names like Ghost and Felix Holt and many others ....... They are intrinsic parts of the current operation in question .. and the current operation is clearly aware of the dialogue being circulated on here .
But would rather not say who they are ... But we know who they are ...in reality .
The Engineer is me Im Andy Richards for those who claim not to know .

I dont expect others to be so forthright and open as me but then I have nothing to hide and maybe they do ?? So Ghost tell them who you are or is that just a little indigestible ??? Felix come on out of your cat box , it was said back in 2011 that they. Wont come on here and justify any of their decisions or cases but they are here trying to manipulate chat away from the issues and the facts .. but hey ho what goes around comes around its just a matter of time and how many people die before it all goes full circle .

So because I disagree with your point of view, or indeed put forward the thought that there may be other aspects to these matters, you now attack me and make lots of unfounded allegations? Interesting way to try to win people over...

I don't have to do this, but for the record:
If you care to check my avatar, you will see I've been on NP since 2006 not 2010.
If you care to check my avatar, you will see I live in N.Ireland.
If you check every single post of mine, my name is at the bottom - it's Keith. I do not add my surname for personal reasons.
I was a member of the L&B for one year and visited it once in 2019 with my wife (which we both thoroughly enjoyed), I made a contribution to the BF purchase fund.
I have had an interest in the L&B since watching BBC programme 'The train now departing'
I am not, and do not know Felix Holt, although I suspect I know who you are speaking of.
I have nothing to do with the operation, boards, committees or groups of the L&B, trust, EA or any other associated grouping.

    Satisfied now?

You certainly won’t get a response from Felix Holt. That account was suspended ages ago….

I’m not expecting any answers, I’m hoping members who read negative posts (particularly those who are unable to see the problems first hand, will reflect and ask questions of their own in an effort to find out for themselves.

Is would be rather silly to seek answers from members who are x amount of miles away however it would further be unreasonable to expert the same members to know of the issue which are not in the public domain and shielded from the ugly truth.

As I have said previously, I don’t expect anyone to accept my or anyone else’s version of events, what I do expert is to be challenged however, I can only give my version supported by available evidence. It’s down to readers to seek the truth for themselves.

An example might be that we were all recently treated to @Old Kent Biker ‘understanding’ of a planning application drawn up on the bases of advice given by NDDC only to discover the application itself gave a different account in black and white. As such his understanding, however that came about appears to be misinformed - not that blame can be laid at @Old Kent Biker door. However, given his ‘understanding’ is not written any where, it must have originated verbally. Respectfully, like water, such information rolls down hill.

@ConRod1, I used (and HIGHLIGHTED) the word SURMISE. To avoid any doubt, this is defined thus:

Can we please get back to something more constructive ? This is getting more than tedious.

Well, it’s the Annual Members Meeting at the weekend, and questions can be put and answers sought. For those who can’t be there either because of distance or COVID maybe - if nothing official is published - someone could provide a summary, as was done for the AGM? That might be more constructive than hints and innuendo on here.

@ Old Kent Biker, Respectfully , Do you mean:

    /ˈsʌmərʌɪz/
    verb: summarise
give a brief statement of the main points of (something)???

If so, either-way your summary is inaccurate and misleading because however you look at it, your summary of the ‘point’ surround advice from NDDC is not written anywhere, whereas the application form is quite clear that advice was not sought as such was not given.

Further your point on responsibility for health and safety to staff volunteers, visitors and so on appears to have been elaborated on by others, amounting to, if it’s not happening at WB on an operating day, basically the those at the top of tree have sloping shoulders.

Personally I couldn’t give two hoots, it’s not me that’s liable when the brown stuff hits the fan.

    In this post:
Mr De Young definitely means surmise. His post is part a statement of facts as known, and partly an opinion piece. It is not in any way a summary.

What you, Mr ConRod have done is change what he actually said to something he didn't say, then attacked him for what you chose to mis-report. Isn't that rather the behaviour you object to from the L&B management?

Right, I for one am sick to the back teeth with this, now, to the point where you and that buddy of yours are making me want to chew the furniture. You are trolls, plain and simple, screwing with people's minds.
    Enough.
Begone, and let us have done with you.
In the name of God, go.
And if I get modded for this, it was worth it.
