    Hi Paul, (aka @Kempenfelt)

I agree that the likelihood is income will be received in other ways eg a tenner popped in a donation tin or indeed sale of goods.

I was merely curious as to how physical journeys taken reflect the actual revenue generated against ticket sales. The literature often talks of record passenger numbers but there appears to be little if any cross referencing which I would have thought would be something investors/shareholders would take interest in, it appears my logic here is misguided.

I’m grateful you have taken the time to not simply dismiss my curiosity as some form of underhanded denigration.

I’ll have proper read the overwhelming number of replies to my post which so far, I’ve only given a quick scan. However, I believe that @Old Kent Biker has indicated that such records may be held at Companies house. Hopefully the answer to my curiosity will be easy to find and put to bed if you will.

    Regards,

    Steve.

Perks are, I suppose, nice, but....I am a member of several heritage railway societies. I think one offers discounted travel, and a very pukka quarterly magazine. If I visit once a year with a guest, my discounted journey, along with four magazines (notionally worth what, 3 quid each) is about equal to my £20 membership. Except I joined to society to support the railway. Is that financial support negated by what I actually receive in benefits of that membership? Sorry, not arguing with you- its just this is a subject which troubles my little brain. I solve it by not taking advantage of the discounted travel, buying my lunch at the railway, and I do tend to make additional donations. I doubt I am alone in this strategy- but it begs the question "Do railways need to offer perks and benefits to eager supporters?"

I’m definitely up for the eco side of things, it help offset eco criticism which steam seems attract. This may also be worth looking into perhaps later down the line - no pun intended.

I would like to wish Chris Duffell congratulations by getting voted onto the board of trustee's,possibly the first person in a long while who wasn't co-opted on beforehand,i hope the other trustee's welcome you onboard and do not close ranks on you and that you can start to bring the openness and transparency we all so desperately need, this is probably the best news iv'e heard from the railway all bloody year;)

Without wishing to appear to be pouring cold water on Chris's good news, I would caution people about raising their expectations too much at this early stage. If he finds himself in a minority of 1 against a majority of 8, then it may be hard to make much headway. More importantly, as a Trustee he will be subject to the requirements of 'corporate responsibility' and therefore required to support the decisions of the Board in public even if he disagrees with them in private. There have been examples elsewhere of the fate of those who 'make waves' too vocally :-(

    Meanwhile, it's onwards with Phase 2A :)

Yes, some of us remember how Andrew Dow was ganged up on and felt obliged to walk out of the meeting in 2002 never to return. If I have misrepresented that someone will correct me. Andrew had his faults but he didn't deserve that.

Agreed. I'm sure Chris realises that, despite the recent problems, getting elected was (relatively speaking) the easy bit...
Let's just hope we can all look forward soon to rebuilding more bridges - both literally and figuratively.

Might be an idea to see how things develop for a while rather than speculating or rehashing the same stuff that’s been gone over a dozen times??

Exactly - time will tell. What is important is that things progress with the next phase of the project to build on the sucesses in recent months.

Nobody should understate what has been achieved to date but there comes a time when the baton has to be passed on. Let’s hope it will be done with good grace and in a constructive sprit.

Somebody once said to me that voluntary projects need three groups of people, the founders, the builders and then those who run it. They all need different skills and to know when to hand over.

It wasn't the AGM,it was the members forum, there was a good turn out and on the whole it was an interesting day,the results of the recent vote were announced and due to some social media comments about people not knowing who any of these personalities were, there was an introduction of the trustee's and directors that were present ,then there was news of recently reposted invitations in private eye and steam railway magazines to invest in a certain project ,most of the day was given up to John Barton (trustee) giving a talk with slide show on the current situation with the planning, members could ask question if they wished on anything relevant to each slide.Chris Duffell gave an interesting talk on the possible cause of the failure of Parracombe bank back in 1952 on the night of the Lymouth floods, finishing off with Charles Summers briefing the room on the progress of van 23 and coach 1
