does anyone who was on board recognize these fellow passengers ? The one bloke is clearly trying to add to fatality numbers for the day. 3.03 onward.

Unusual not to have the platform end stewarded by the on board stewards. I am guessing that was on of the support crew who was clearing back to the correct area.

Unbelievable, if that's a passenger Vintage Trains need to take action - that can't happen again.

I think they were locals rather than passengers. This happened whilst I was in Greggs down the road getting some supplies. When I got back there was talk on the train about "local idiots" who had gone onto the line to take photos.

There were some on board announcements re stewards to platform end. Now I know why. What a plonker.

When I was a steward there would usually be two of us at the platform end during station stops to prevent people going down the ramp.

The Duchess made rather a meal of that departure from Craven Arms. It's only 1 in 200 max for the first half a mile or so but it clearly struggled to keep its feet.

Very shortly later the crew yelled very loudly at this individual telling him in no uncertain terms to get back on the platform '& that someone had already died today and we don't need another'.

There were a lot of locals turning out to see the loco - the station is right next to a housing estate.

Absolute morons, what a way to add insult to injury after what was already a dreadfully sad morning. I thought I’d seen it all on the final day of GBXII, sadly it continues.

I don't recognise him so I assume he was a local, there were plenty of those around though they soon lost interest when the train didn't move. I didn't see anyone down the platform ramp when I was at the front but I didn't spend much time around there so I assume the tour manager deployed some stewards, there seemed to be plenty of staff about when I was there. A police officer did call in to check all was OK and there was nothing cracking off then.

    What complete idiots!
Certainly by the time I'd finished my cuppa and decided to go stretch my legs, there were stewards actively monitoring the platform end, and they were also working hard to keep people behind the yellow line at Hereford.

It's not like you even needed to go beyond the platform end to get a good photo either, as evidenced by all the perfectly good photos taken from the safety of the opposite platform!

I did initially worry that the person who was tragically hit might have been an irresponsible photographer positioning themselves for Tornado or 6233, but I haven't heard anything to suggest that was the case.

The chap crouching down at 3-32 ish with his back to traffic wasn’t much better but I suppose the unit had already gone.

No, definitely not, a sad but deliberate act, I have subsequently found out.

    Thanks for the confirmation.
Still incredibly tragic, but less likely to result in kneejerk actions against main line steam.

I'm reasonably confident they were nothing to do with the tour and were locals as you say. If you listen in the background there's the sound of an ice cream van, and I recall hearing that before I'd walked through Eagle to advise passengers of the delay which won't have given people from onboard any opportunity to go on the track and would also explain why coach stewards weren't available (they were still at their doors).

I think the clown in the four foot was within minutes of the train arriving, maybe 10 minutes at most. It got to Craven Arms at 1037 and because we were still awaiting confirmation from NR regarding the incident and could have departed at any time I didn't authorise the stewards to release the train doors until after 1100, I think more like 1110. By that time many of the locals had dispersed having gotten bored, I was busy on the phone to control and liasing with my colleagues about a course of action.
