Cracking pix. On the second one, it's creepy on that curve when there is nobody looking out the cab, the window resembles a cold dark eye, there's a real sense that she is a malevolant machine hunting you down.

Can you tell I watched Duel recently

I made the ultimate boob and snapped wrong side of the wind, got a full side shot of a steam cloud, and a mouth full of soot, even though I was stood 30 yards away \:D/

All the passengers looked like they were having fun anyway.

I noticed 67006 Royal Sovereign was out and about on the main line (light engine). Actually you couldn't miss it, the driver was playing quite a tune on the whistle as he passed Tornado, and all the way out of earshot for everyone lineside.

I also noticed a southbound WCR diesel tour aswell, double headed by 37s and a couple of pullman cars at the rear.

All in all an interesting day.

Next stop, actually ride the train!

Paul, that photo is superb! Good to see something different involving the Forth Bridge.

    Tornado is one awesome machine.

Sounds typical East Coast sharp staccato as she works up to 75mph and then just reels off the miles in complete silence as she is just master of the job.

We only hitched a lift for a short distance - Darlington to York so that we could get home tonight, but its enough to convince me that I should be a few years older, then I could have enjoyed post war steam at its best - for real!

    Some superb shots guys!

    What a fantastic trip!
The noise Tornado made was unbelievable, especially when being worked, the racket easily equalled if not outdid that of an A4 or better and the acceleration was unbelievable! Thanks to everybody for making it such a fantastic trip once again!

Photos and vid with said sound coming soon.

    Cheers,
    Mark

Thanks, and to '5944'. It was taken from the road bridge with an 85mm lens on an APS sized DSLR. I ended up cropping a bit, so the shot you see is probably more like 100mm. The main problem was finding a section of the bridge that wasn't covered in white sheeting. It's a real mess at the moment.

Here's another from yesterday. It was really going some here, rounding the curve past Redhouse Castle in East Lothian:

At the risk of showing myself up as a pedant, if not quite a "rivet counter"... isn't the word "rail" redundant here? I think it's known simply as the Forth Bridge? The suspension bridge alongside is the Forth Road Bridge. We all get upset over the misuse of words like "train", "engine", etc, so I think we should try to get the names of famous structures correct too. Or is it me that's got it wrong?
