To be honest I can see why they are doing it, its a great project but In my eyes £80,000 a month is stupid money.
plus I feel sorry for the lottery and the people who donated, it cost £6 million I think.

£800k is a lot of friends and it could still happen, whilst the engine is new and fresh in everyone's minds is the best time for it to make its money... at least this engine isnt owned by the bank and mortgaged !

Hmm, Vulcan fund raising seems to have picked the pace up in the last few days. Pledges were at £724k at about 8am today, they are now at £798k. And thats on top of the 100k they raised in 24 hours over Mon / Tues!

That Vulcan 607 book is a cracking read. The Vulcan costs much more than a steam loco to run I would have thought. Hopefully mothballing is not the end and she can fly as/when money allows, at least it saves some costs while the aircraft's integrity won't suffer from being inactive, as long as she is properly prepped/stored. Hopefully the people involved are still available as/when.

As often and for as long as it needs to be? There is clearly a lot of support for the aircaft - long may she fly :)

Unfortunately this only works a couple of times maximum.

Yes long may she fly, perhaps she should become part of the RAF heritage fleet?

A long term future is better than a couple of years flying, its scarey to think how close the group came to going bust.

Well done to all those (us) who supported her.

    Now there's an idea!

The RAF's contribution did not stop in 1945, so it's museum flight shouldn't do so either. Vulcan, Victor, Canberra, Jaguar, Phantom, and above all Lightning. Really saddens me to see that one in the scrap yard south of Newark every time I drive past.

TBH the RAF are probably the only people who can realistically keep large jets flying.

Absolutely, she could become a flying tribute to those who lost their lives in the Falklands war.

I know the lightning you mean, what a horrible and undignified end for such a lovely aircraft.
By the looks of it she is past saving?

    Yes,

It has been there for so long. I have seen it for at least 20 years. How long has it actually been there?
