That is an auto 3.5SE. My first car in 1986 was the 2L version on an A-plate.

I too enjoy my RV8 experience!
But back to the L & B, there seem to be various developments imminent, so 2022 is looking good. There must be updates re the new build MWs too.

So there may be a rush of SD1 owners to the L and B R next September as the photo appears on many walls or desks?

The SD1 was a classic design, must have also been liked in China where SAIC Motors brought what was left of the company, with a design team in the UK, to make a new build!.

Now called the Roewe 950 as SAIC did not get the copyright on the Rover name, has a powerful GM 3 litre V6 engine or a eco hybrid turbocharged 1.4 petrol/battery engine, not quite an SD1 and only sold in China (edit: some stiff competition in UK from Jags, Mercs, BMW etc).

There is also a SD1 on Simon George's massive model railway. Picture at

It was Austin 7s in my day, but I am showing my age. The disadvantage was having to grind in the valves every 10,000 miles, but this could be done on mother's kitchen table. Oh, and take the front axle to a foundry (19" wheels, so necessary to bore out and re-metal the pivot holes for the kingpins) when the MoT came in, reverse the brake levers ( to make the car stop) and remember to put them back afterwards. 1,000s of miles of happy motoring to North Wales (and North Devon) live a dead NG railways.

An interesting snippet from the L & B website..."
...."... One interesting proposition was from a university, who need S&T-related topics for students on a Railway Engineering degree course to undertake as final-year projects. This may give a way for us to help young engineers, and in return gain the benefit of their work. These ideas will be followed up in the coming weeks.

Unsurprising, and something I’d expect to come up in the conveyancing process
