In answer to Ralph’s question, a hydraulic test was carried out last week. It was done just as a preliminary check on the installation of the tubes, as obviously, with the fittings in place a high pressure couldn’t be obtained due to leakage past the regulator. We started fitting the superheater elements yesterday, and it is hoped that they will all be fitted within the next few days ready for a steam test before the end of this week, or certainly the end of next week at the latest.

    Regards,

    Dave.

    Hi Conireland,

The first planned steam trip officially communicated to the 6201 Support Crew, is the Bristol to Preston leg of the Great Britain II on 8th April, as advertised by The Railway Touring Company. Obviously, this will depend on the overhaul being completed and officially approved. A lot of hard work is being carried out by LNWR and the 6201 Working Party to expedite the process and if we aren’t ready in time, it won’t be for the want of trying.

    Regards,

    Dave.

What's the latest news of Lizzie? Did the recent steam test go OK? Will she be ready for The Great Britain next week (Wed 8th, Bristol - Hereford - Shrewsbury - Preston)? Looking forward to seeing her.

I heard last weekend that the valves and pistons were been stripped out for an exam, there seems to be no organisation what so ever with this engine as yet again the boiler ticket is ticking away again. Why not do the V + P exam whilst it was been re tubed? ](*,)

Is it not a case of limited volunteers with limited time and resources to do all the jobs required . It is all too easy to criticse and all too hard to physically help

IIRC, that's a fairly routine operation. Don't you do that every 3-6 months, or so? Also necessary for the main-line ticket, I think. Provided nothing bad is found, she should still be ready for next week's duties, shouldn't she? And besides, the boiler ticket isn't "ticking away again", is it? The next booked work for the loco is next week. Provided she makes that, nothing is lost. Indeed, it shows that the planning was quite good - the boiler exam was scheduled sufficiently in advance of the next booked work to allow time for defects to be rectified if necessary. Better than doing it at the last minute, surely?

No use waiting for DaveC to give us a updated report, it seems he is the latest man to jump ship from the support crew, question is, did he jump or was he pushed???????

This seems the norm on these pages.

I dont know why some folk bother giving up their spare time only to get constantly bashed by the armchair brigade.

They do it because they can.
They do it because they are better than the armchair Brigade.
They do it in spite of the politics.
They do it because they are committed.

I for one am gratefull that they do

Well said! Too many replies on this thread in particular start or end with a snide comment on the basis of no knowledge.

And your basis for that comment is .............

By the way - there was a curl of smoke from Lizzie's chimney this morning.

Does this mean there was a test underway prior to next Wednesday's booked turn ex Bristol?

Just read back through thirty pages of comments! I think you'll find more than the odd one or two which either begin or end in a comdemnation.

On another thread discussing liveries, we were told that it was entirely down to the owners to take the decisions regarding their engines. I'd love to believe that all those on this thread who have demanded explanations and criticised the group's actions have ever at any time supported, financially or practicaly, 6201, let alone are members of the Society. But I doubt it.

    Hi Frank

She was indeed back in one piece and undergoing steam test prior to next week.

Does any one know if the loco has undergone it's audits for the relevant TOC's? i.e. west coast for the movement and trip next week...

And i suspect you are agreeing with LMS2968 on the basis of no knowledge where Stan the Man is concerned. He's quite capable of defending himself but if you think he has no knowledge of restoring steam then you are sadly mistaken.
