Yeah, but it’s swings and roundabouts ain’t it? I’ll take that rotary valve gear any day

Probably being a tad pedantic here, but wouldn't it technically end being pretty much the same amount of spit and polish on the P2's wheels? It's got a extra driving wheel sure, but one less set of wheels on the front leading bogie...

I'll get my coat and leave now.

Did you account for surface area of spokes? (More driving wheel spokes ...) ;)

    No I did not!

Oh well, least he's got a simpler valve gear to clean, as mentioned already. That's got to count for something.

I asked because running on the GCR with wheels no longer suitable for the main line means either running with the flats or turning the tyres down a bit too thin for the main line but possibly still OK on the GCR. I wondered which would be worse.

The GCR has just released the dates & services that Tornado will be running in January (looking forward to getting myself down on the Saturdays with my cleaning rag for a closer look):

New tyres go on to the wheel centers then that assembly is skimmed to DWG size right pre-assembly to locomotive? Is that right?

So the image above, the tyres are oversize?

I’ll be honest Knut my favourite Peppercorn Pacific’s Blue Peter, but back to 60163, whenever I see it or photos of it I’m always reminded of the old saying ‘we can achieve miracles every day, the impossible just takes us a little longer’:)

In a couple of years time we will hopefully have a serious array of of Class 8; A1 and A2, Duke and Duchess, and maybe even a P2 available...

Do Merchant Navies not count as class 8?
