A superb video, with great control over the zoom out and in. Wish I could do that !

Was there something in the four foot on the approach to the station?

Visible until the loco passes over it at around 1:07 in the video.

Thank you! Starting a zoom without shaking the camera too much is always a challenge!
I think they may be some disused / spare rails. Seems to be the same on the other track as well.

I used one of these, https://www.proav.co.uk/vz-rock-zoom-controller it was brilliant, as it was mounted on the handle of the pan head of your tripod you never had to touch the camera. The rocker switch for the zoom was variable from dead slow zoom to a really quick one. It meant that you could pull back at a speed to match the oncoming subject.
A bit pricey but well worth the investment.

Such a thing is on my Christmas list, its just a case of finding one that works with whatever camera you own!

    That does look impressive.

My problem is justifying that sort of expense. For the few videos I produce and the very limited views they get, I can barely justify spending that on my camera :)

Yes they need a 'lanc' input socket on the camera.

Yes - the anount of scrap rail (and various other material) left on the UK network is a scandal. These cut off lengths are quite small, but vast amounts litter the permanent way in so many places. Today's very tight engineering allowances seemingly don't allow time to clear up. Not only is the scrap metal value high, but abandoned rails create trip hazards for staff, with NR spending huge sums painting/highlighting so many items for just that reason.

Went over to York today to see the 2 steam specials
Both called The Christmas White Rose
One run by Saphos Tours with 46100 Royal Scot, and the other by Vintage Trains with 6233 Duchess of Sutherland
First to arrive about just a few minutes late was 46100 Royal Scot
