    Red loco lamps were the norm during earlier GW days - can't quote you the date when they ceased being red though I'm afraid.

    A set of red lamps is sometimes used on the SVR GW liveried locos for variation/authenticity.[/quote]

    Thanks for that :)

    Excellent day today, although the weather NEVER played ball with where I was! Nonetheless was a great way to get back into the gala swing after missing so many recently. Pics to follow

    Had a superb day yesterday at the SVR - an excellent gala - loco / stock formations spot on.

    It was a very busy Gala, I quickly ran out of my stock of several hundred SSSII leaflets!

    I also heard the ASG will be very good!!

    Had a great time on Friday, really enjoyed my first visit to the line in over 20 years.

    The volunteers and everyone who clearly put a lot of effort in to make the gala a great success are to be congratulated, thank you very much.

    I think that Highley and the Engine House has to be one of the most atmospheric locations on any preserved line in the UK. Sounds seem to carry for an extraordinary distance, whistles could clearly be heard well before or after a train has passed;a pair of buzzards calling to one another from one side of the valley to the other.

    I hope to be back again to enjoy the valley in height of summer.

    You are correct about the speed - there are a multitude of additional restrictions on locomotives with driving wheels over 6' diameter on the valley (i.e. all of this weekend's visitors). All to do with the curvature in places, and the fact that originally the line was built for a much lower axle loading.

    It was an amazing weekend, 7812 looked stunning (if i do say myself) aswell as 71000 and 60007. I was filming and taking stills all weekend and the link is shown below;

    Just arrived back from Bridgnorth. An absolute excellent weekend for train services, weather did turn bad on the Saturday & Sunday but apart from that a very excellent Gala.

    All guest locomotives looked stunning, as well as 7812 in which is becoming a favourite amongst enthusiasts & SVR loco crews.

    A few photos are attached from me, with more which will go on my website in due course. Link is in my signature.

    I enjoyed a mixture of volunteering and chasing around after the trains, enjoying the number of guests who congratulated us Bewdley MPD people on the fantastic state of Earlstoke Manor.
