A ride in an RT.

The event I filmed was part of the extended RT75 celebrations.

 

Even today, even in London traffic, I'd happily do a shift on an RT.

Always assuming I could get mounted.

 

Very much the buses of my childhood. Aside from a few Merlin Swifts and a solitary Guy Special at Plumstead (AM) and about a dozen RFs at Sidcup (SP), they were once ubiquitous on services from those, Abbey Wood (AW) and Bexleyheath (BX). The nearest green ones lived at Dartford (DT). BX aside, all those garages, like the RTs and my youth, are history.

 

Mine too. I knew one of the drivers at Cricklewood Garage and he showed me how to use a pre-selector gearbox.

 

Back in the days of the Fighter Meet air shows at North Weald, you could drive an RT round a course for £1. Happy days.
