Unlike down south where we had full bore gloom for the Duchess.

All the video clips and the photos were absolutely cracking, Top marks to all who went out there and then kindly posted on here the results of their efforts. And no, I'm not going to say which I think was best.;)

lime Steet 7.45 dark and damp, Wigan, daylight appearing through the fog, Hellifield, still ultra gloom and fog, Helwith Bridge and as you can see from Sheps excellent atmospheric we were still in poor conditions and I'm seriously concerned as we still can't see the promised scenery, and passengers are understandably getting a bit fed up, then suddenly we emerged into the glorious scenery that you can see from all the fabulous shots from our band of dedicated photographers. It was noticeable on the return that soon after Helwith Bridge we descended back into the fog.
Just an aside it was noted from the timings we were to have a clear run from Hellifield to Blackburn as ee were timed to run ahead of the Clitheroe stopper, unfortunately the signaller had not taken note of this and thus we lost time running after it. Speedy work at Preston meant we only left there about 5 minutes down and with Mr Kelly still in charge we made it to Lime Steet on time.

As an aside, I "think" this was the first steam in December over the S&C southbound in daylight since 2010.

Fantastic video and great conditions - was at Selside myself - drove back following the line 10 minutes later and that exhaust was still there all the way back to Horton in Ribblesdale where it merged with the mist.
