Seems that the engine governors on 37s have a tendency to hunt for some reason.

That was quite some start up!, must have been very rewarding for the workforce, well done.

Pretty common, though whether it’s the governor or play in the fuel rack linkage …

I think you misunderstood me, I know 403 went on hire to DRS, just wondered if there was an agreement in place about something like a repair and run.
Totally understand if it’s confidential and can’t be confirmed or denied.

The power unit in 37403 when she went on hire to DRS failed during the hire period, DRS put their own unit in which was returned to them after the hire ended. SRPS volunteers have refurbished a spare power unit which is now installed in the loco - running in at Bo'ness for the next couple of months hopefully followed by further mainline running.

I think I would have wanted a shunter hooked up and the 37 pulled out into the yard before the button was pressed.

Agreed, quite a few years ago when involved with a number of Class 50’s a cold start of one after winterisation was rather dramatic and Smokey to say the least, the football team above the embankment weren’t impressed that they couldn’t see each other too. And that was in the open air.

A lot of half-baked speculation from people who have probably never had any involvement at Bo'ness..!

The loco was started inside the shed because on a number of recent occasions local residents have called the fire brigade when something has been started up on very cold days - due to the location of Bo'ness at the bottom of the Forth Valley large ouputs of exhaust can be seen for miles. As can be seen in the video, once the loco had been started the shed was cleared of all staff. No work resumed until the fumes had cleared over the next hour or so; the shed at Bo'ness resembles a wind tunnel when the doors at either end are opened so was well ventilated by the time anyone went back inside.

May I suggest that a 'phone call to the Fire Brigade be made before such a start-up to save them turning out unnecessarily?

Rubbish. It's not 'half baked speculation', it a reasonable observation reacting to an online video clip. There were people in the shed when the 37 fired., it's a tad too late clearing the shed when the thing had fired. I've never been to Bo'ness, I've no idea of the local surroundings or the local residents or the fire brigade call outs. Were you present when the button was pressed?
Oh , and I have experience of being in a shed/garage when cold stating diesel engines, it's not a healthy place to be.

A good and thoughtful suggestion, even if the fire station happens to be downwind!

Thinking back, how the hell did the London Fire Brigade ever know if the palls of smoke emanating from Paddington or Kings Cross were fires, or just Whizzos and Deltics cranking up?

The building will aslo likely be full of soot as a result of this start up which is still carcinogenic. It can be easily disturbed which presents an ongoing hazard.
