SDR gala Covid permitting: 7820 on main set, 1369 on 2 coach GWR set, 6430 if ready on auto train otherwise 5542. Keep looking at SDR website for news/confirmation.

I personally would have run 5542 instead of 1369, give it more of a Welsh flavour, but thats just me. :)

    No goods train? Strange?

FFS, a full GWR line up (which you've mentioned in every bloody post since you signed up) and you're still not happy! And now you're asking for a freight set too?

Some people are never happy Paul, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

I've been on NatPres long enough to see it in action, you'd think I'd learn. But some people really do take the absolute biscuit with it when they'll never turn up in the first gub.

First of all, their really is NO NEED to swear.
Secondly, I couldn't be anymore happier that South Devon ate throwing a full GWR steam gala, in fact, I've book my ticket to go there New Years Day and I am over the moon they are holding something after Christmas.
Lastly, if going by evidence of previous winter/spring events, they have always run a goods train, that's just what I assumed happened, that's all! SHEESH! :Rage:
If I was REALLY demanding, I would have demanded L92 to become 5786 (again), get that to replace 1369 AND book either 75014 OR 46521! :Rage:

Just a gentle reminder of a couple of options: Don't Feed the Trolls, or just Ignore.

How on earth am I a troll?!
All I said was: "Personally would have run 5542 instead of 1369"

    PERSONALLY!!
    AS IN AN OPINION!!

If you guys don't like what I am saying then tough!
I will say what I want, when I want, its a free country! :Punch:

Really sorry you had to hear that Collett Goods (great name BTW), just getting sick of people me a troll, who clearly don't know what one is.

I will be definitely looking forward to the gala with the engines and rolling stock rostered, I haven't been on the SDR for 2 years now, will definitely be worth a treat! :)

I think a nice move will be if one of the trains goes the other way into the shed like it is going to ashburn then there could be some good photos and films made of it going. I hope the minture railway will be going as it’s hidden and a lot bigger than people think it is. Ther used to be a good bus to that went to the monkery which also added more on to the day and was more to see.

Must admit I have been at Buckfastleigh early in the morning some days and photographed empty stock being brought up from the headshunt into the platform and thought to myself 'that's nice, feels like it's arriving from Ashburton'.

Would also concur with City of Truro Fan about the miniature railway, which my daughter loves. I wouldn't say it's hidden given how prominent its station is but the route is very impressive. Definitely no shortage of attractions at Buckfastleigh.

As for the criticism of the lack of goods at the gala, I'm just delighted, amazed and grateful that the line is attempting a gala at all right now. The SDR has produced some incredibly intricate and ambitious galas (I remember the spreadsheet I produced to make sure I photographed or rode on all the epic array of loco and stock combinations across both weekends of the February 2013 one) but now - amid the stress of uncertain covid restrictions, unpredictable public confidence levels and the prospect of huge amounts of staff and volunteer illness or isolation - is not the time to be adding complications of any kind! Hopefully it can happen and I very much look forward to being there on the final day if it does.

whilst clearly we all have an opinion and our own thoughts on how we would operate a gala it is how we voice those thoughts that brings us as individuals to life

both sides I think if they look back on what they said will feel they maybe went too far or could have said it better

Be thankful it goes ahead, GWSR, Llangollen, Midsomer Norton have already cancelled post Christmas running due to Covid conserns
