Whilst ideal for the Bluebell, as the Es made occasional forays onto the Wealden lines in late Southern/early BR days, it would be very out of place, not to mention significantly overweight, for the KESR, and with those big drivers would really struggle on Tenterden bank, anyway.

Glad to hear you’re ok. Sorry to hear that there was so much destruction.

Bearing in mind that this was announced as approved by the Bluebell railway 2 years ago, I would guess that most enthusiasts would be aware of the plan.

Why single out the poor old KESR? Not that suitable to build for any 25mph pleasure railway arguably.

They were of course routinely seen on what’s now the Bluebell from SR days onwards - wheel diameter notwithstanding!

Hang on, hang on, let's back this up a few feet.
First off, what does big wheels have to do with it? Were you not there when Foxy visited? Wheels on Manors aren't exactly tiny are they, in fact, that managed to showed up every engine KESR had!

Second, it's a Class 3P, that should be both light and powerful enough for Tenterden bank as well as many others.

Remember, the T9 is the same power and size and that did 5 mark ones up The Alps in 2013, that's steeper than Tenterden.

Another thing, if your talking about weight, KESR are restoring a 42xx tank! Not exactly a lightweight is it?!

Did not know the MHR was steeper than 1 in 50, where on the line is that?

The track on the KESR has been progressively upgraded over the years of preservation.
Currently classified as RA8, I believe.

But you are right, an E would be out of place on a 'light railway', but so was Foxcote Manor. Still nice to see as an occasional visitor.

Think it's Alton side, only for maybe ½ mile.

1264 looked out of place at GWSR.
61306 looked out of place at Bluebell.
31806 looked out of place at North Norfolk.
    WHO CARES!!!!???

The E would bring people to the railway, like 7822, 4144, 80072, L92 and the many other engines they have bought in to run regular services.

Imagine the pull it would have if the E class and P class double headed a Wealdon Pullman??!!

Manors have 5'8'' drivers whereas the Es haD 6'6". Also with the Es you only have 4 drivers rather than 6, so the adhesion area is lower. Both of those equal more difficulty getting traction down, accelerating at low speed and hill climbing. Plus the Manor tractive effort is getting on for 10,000lbs more than the Es, so it's got a lot more power to play with

Between Hampshire Hunt bridge and the location cabinet before the summit. 1 in 47 I believe. It's also steeper than nominal by the race track for a couple of hundred yards.

If big driving wheels equate to problems laying power down, who is going to break it to farmers all over the world that their tractors have all been built wrongly! Actually, I can think of one person for the job......

And there was me thinking that larger diameter wheels had a larger contact patch than the smaller ones.
