    Afternoon All,

We spent Christmas with one of our daughters in London and she introduced us to Epping Forest, somewhere we'd not been before. It was a dull and dismal misty, moisty day, but regardless of that I took some cameras with me...

    Here's to a covid-free and steam-filled New Year!

    Ron.

Being originally from Kent, I too was unaware of Epping Forest, until I moved here.
It's a place of contradictions, free access to walk almost anywhere, but no actual designated Public Footpaths. The best all weather walks are on the Rides, maintained for horses. Unless you step off the surfaced routes you can miss so much. And the biggest contradiction, it's IN the county of Essex, but is RUN by the City of London.

Many years ago I did just that. Enjoyed several sessions of clearing unwanted growth from the clearings.

My 'spare' time is now fully accounted for. I have to allocate it more sparingly than I used to.

I've always been aware of it as my family originated from East London but the nearest I've been to it is the Epping Ongar Railway - and the bus ride to get to it from Epping Station.

As I live in Hampshire it's a bit of a long way to go.

Thanks! I remember when the commoners’ unfenced grazing was still taking place. Sometimes the cows, tiring of the rural life, would wander across the Green Man roundabout (before the A12 was built) and head up High Road Leytonstone in search of urban excitement. This could be an unexpected traffic hazard in the rush hour.

Although they are fenced in now, cattle are still in the forest.
