On the loco hire, unless I’m mistaken, wasn’t the Ivatt dispatched from the MHR in exchange for 4612, to allow it to appear at the Thomas event as Duck following the failure of 6435, the reason being the MHR needed a pannier for that?

Makes sense to me, makes maintenance, overhauls and crewing a lot easier.
I have Foreign friend who on seeing British preserved steam railways always comments why doesn’t each railway just have particular class of engine it would make the things easier for each railway, although enthusiasts would probably have a different perspective to that.

Sources also report the departure of a BR Mk 1 SK, a GWR syphon , a CCT and a stored DMU car with a milk tank still offered for sale. Two, small industrial diesels and a couple of wagons are also waiting for transport to another site. Apparently much of this has been driven by a reduction in storage space following the loss of the sidings at Walker Lines and a review of workshop capacity and funding . 4247's time came to an end following a re-assessment of the load capacity of one bridge which meant it could no longer run to Boscarne Junction. The dining set has also been placed in store pending a review of its future.

Thanks Brennan. Like I say, I had hoped that there was a better explanation than the one sitting in front of me. All very sensible.

Does anyone know what's happening at Walker Lines? Recent social media posts show the old turnout lifted, but a new one has been installed slightly further back towards Bodmin Parkway, so some siding space must still be available / in the plan?

As far as I've been told, the Milk tanker has been sold (but not to me I hastily add!)

Interesting, it seems to imply that 4247 won't be doing any running at Cranmore prior to overhaul. Has its ticket already expired and that's just something I've missed?

It was already out of ticket - not sure when its ticket actually finished though.

Walker Lines started life in about 1970 when a private siding was laid ( section 8 grant) to service a fertiliser distribution depot. Passenger services had ended in 1967 so it was a cheap job using recovered materials. After a few years this traffic went to road haulage and the siding abandoned but left in place. After the Bodmin and Wenford started operations an additional three sidings were laid to provide storage for permanent way vehicles and also for a rail freight service used by a manufacturer of lighting equipment. In the fullness of time this also ceased and the premises were taken over by another business that didn't use rail transport. The original siding and one of the additional were on private land , therefore no longer accessible by the BWR.

The connection had a very tight radius that made the shunting of bogie stock difficult , also by about 2010 the use of life-expired materials made the tracks unserviceable and there was very little use. Finally the connecting point was also deemed unserviceable and has now been removed. However, a new connection with better alignment was first laid, the site cleared and levelled and the intention is to erect a carriage storage shed at some time in the future.

In the early days of the BWR (early 90's) didn't freight trains used to run from Walker lines? I'm sure i remember reading that in SR at the time.

Wasn't that a film studio lighting company who found rail caused less damage to their equipment than lorries? Or maybe that another preserved line.
