I have the Hornby "super detail" 2509 in original livery. Just need the Silver Jubilee rake to go with it. AFAIK it's available in kit form but would be so much easier if a ready to run rake was produced.

Hornby are doing the Coronation set soon, so maybe the Silver Jubilee will follow. You'll need to sell a lot of fish and chips though!

Last time I saw it with two tenders was August 30 2011 on DCE seen here at Ashford (during a "diversion" whilst travelling between two of our offices for a meeting!)
Looking at Six Bells it still had water stops at Winchfield and Beaulieu Road as usual, so not sure why the second tender unless it was for the SD trip the next day from Poole to Bath which only took water at Salisbury.

    You mean like this:- 88-7-2 9 4498 2509 4468 copy.jpg

The first "great gathering " of A4s at York in July '88. And if you want a match to go with it you could do worse than the 37 (37069) that delivered it to York six weeks earlier 88-5-27 18 2509+37069 Severus Jc copy.jpg

What drawgear / couplings / connections are on the "front" of the "rear" tender (if that makes sense).

In other words, if the rear tender has a drop-head buckeye or screw coupling to the front tender, then it would seem to me to be part of the train - in that if the loco failed, you could split it off and a rescuing loco could pick up the carriages plus rear tender. Whereas if it had some more complex coupling arrangement (and that might include semi-permanently connected water feeds), then if the loco failed, you'd want to consider the whole loco + 2 tenders ensemble as one unit; and split off just the carriages.

    Just a thought.

The rear of the front tender also has to be suitable to couple it either to a train, or to the front of the rear tender.
There was a discussion on the second tender on here a while ago, which I can't find, I think the second tender can only be used one way round. I think it would be more convenient if the couplings were arrange so it could operate running in either direction.

I saw Bittern twice in that guise, firstly squashed away in the shed at Middle Engine Lane (that's how the new retail park at North Shields came to be called Silver Link) and on 26th July on the turntable at York, on a day when 4498 was standing outside without a whistle and with its cod mouth open and until I saw your photos I'd never noticed that 2509 had a single chimney. Nice detail.

PS I'm not a fan of the insipid Granny Smith green on any loco and I love the blinkers on 60103. That's how I remembr A3s. Those blinkers gave them a unique character and look of purposefulness.

On the subject of Scotsman (as lovely as the A4 chat is especially garter blue ones for myself), a large Lloyd's Bank advertising billboard (tying in with the TV ones) featuring the locomotive, has appeared on the wall of the bridge at my local station.

Don't forget to get a photo if it ..... if only to use to complain to the billboard company, somewhere down the line, when you want to give them a hard time about what a decent advert should look like! ;)

(I always retain a soft spot for the Bluebell's near spoof of BR advertising, more years ago than I care to remember, with a shot of Stepney and the brilliant tag line "This is the Aged Train")

I think the TV ads were filmed there so I'd assume the photo was too. This one has only shown up in the last week or so.

The TV ad was filmed at Irwell Vale and the film was flipped back to front for some reason.

I very much hope so, given that Ian and his team did such a great job of bringing it up to its current excellent standard of mechanical reliability, and maintaining it in that condition. Riley's must know it inside out after the work they had to do on it at the last nightmare of an overhaul.

60103 is now back in the TV advert after being removed from it last year. A bit odd that the Scotsman part was the only part removed last year.

I would assume so and will probably be operated by them again. We know Ian and his team can perform quick turnarounds on overhauls (just look at 44871 and 45407) so hopefully nothing untoward comes up.
