The carriage shed at Fairbourne has metal sides, with punched out slats, but on thinking about it, there may also be wooded slats over it on the outside, for cometic appearance and to harmonise with the other buildings on site.. I think the material is, or is similar to, the sheets sold for hanging plastic materials storage boxes from.

Having spent a good chunk of February and March under Traeth Mawr timber viaduct on a rescue boat... I can confirm the rain does indeed only come in parallel with the ground, from all directions.

Interestingly - the link to the property details could not be found. I wonder if this means it has been sold or just taken off the market.

There is a interesting article in the Winter issue of the magazine on Parracombe Bank - I know that this collapsed in 1952. I wondered how much of the structure remains and how much of it is in land owned by the Railway?

Lots of very interesting news in the latest magazine, particularly regarding planning and construction of phase IIa.
Regarding Parracombe Bank, I don't believe any of it is in the railway's ownership - see map.

Thanks - when I looked before it seemed to be at the end of a section the railway owned [Rowley]. It is difficult to see much on google satellite view since the area seems to be in a wood.

Someone not too long ago, (but I cannot find the link) put up a LIDAR scan of Parracombe bank, clearly showing the breach, which, IIRC, is about 60ft at the top, narrowing to around 30 at river level. I wish I could find that link, because the entire line was surveyed, side by side with an O/S 25" equivalent.

Despite being a purist, I have to say that the replacement plastic sleepers really seem to make no obvious aesthetic difference whatsoever. I really hope they do prove to be cost-effective, as sleeper replacement, just on the existing line, has been very labour intensive.
Speaking of which, I just love this dynamic photograph from the weekend, by Stuart Nelhams:
