    General Progress

The year started well with a successful AGM and the return of the bodyside doors from the shotblasters. They arrived in green primer and the Number 1 end doors were fitted straight away. One side fitted perfectly but the other took a bit of work to get to fit and will need some alterations to the latches and hinges to get them to fit. The traction motor blower modifications are going well and it should not be too long before the No 1 end TMB is fitted. Next job is the repainting of the power unit and the engine bay ready for the return of the Generator. Here’s where we got some very bad news…

    The Generator

The generator was picked up and taken to Dowding and Mills for assessment/repair just before Christmas. Initial inspections looked good but on further inspection it was found that the Auxiliary Generator had major degrading of the insulation with it basically rotting away due to years of outdoor storage. That was not the only bad news though. The Main generator inter-poles (of which there are 6) were not correctly functioning, it could be one it could be all 6 or anything in between but whatever happens it will be an expensive re-wind. Dowding’s have been asked to split the inter-poles down to asses the damage but we are looking in the region of £20,000 to be able to pay for these repairs along with the general overhaul of the Generator. If we cannot raise this then the unique Class 15 D8233 will never run again! This is where you come in.

    Generator Appeal

The C15PS has started a Generator Appeal to raise the £20k needed for the repairs/overhaul. We need as much help as possible to make this happen and we have some incentives to hopefully appeal to you to help us out:

    1) Every Donation will receive a certificate stating the donators name and amount donated. Their name will also be placed on a thank you page on the C15PS website (if so wished).
    2) Any Donation of £250 or more (both accumulative or single) will have the donators name engraved on a plaque that will be mounted in the generator compartment on D8233. They will also receive a certificate and have their name on the C15PS website (if so wished).
    3) The Highest single donation will receive a ‘V’ of pistons from D8233’s original power unit that will be mounted on a plinth. These are 2 pistons that have actually run in the power unit of D8233 in BR service and have since seized into their ‘V’ formation. This will be determined once the generator repair has been paid for and the fund closed. They will also receive a certificate, their name on the plaque in the generator compartment and their name on the C15PS website (if so wished).

Any surplus after the fund has closed will retained for any future generator repairs.

Donations can be made by sending either Cheques or Postal Orders to:

    The Treasurer
    14 Hone Hill
    Sandhurst
    Berkshire
    GU47 9DH

Please make cheques payable to ‘Class 15 Preservation Society’ and mark all donations with ‘Generator Appeal’ and if you would like to be included on the website. Also if you are a taxpayer could you please fill in a Gift Aid form (available at http://www.d8233.org.uk/giftaid.html or by sending a S.A.E to the above address), this means for every £1 we receive we get an extra 28p from the Government. Please also include an address or S.A.E to send out your certificate.
You can also donate using Paypal to paypaldonations@d8233.org.uk marking it for the Generator Fund and giving your address and if you want to be included on the website.
Finally you can set up a standing order, our details are:

    Sort Code 09-06-66
    Account 42342109

Anyone setting up a standing order is asked to contact the Treasurer on either the above address or email treasurer@d8233.org.uk stating they have set one up, that its for the generator fund and if they would like to be included on the thank you page on the website. They will also need to include their address so we can send out a certificate. Again, printing off and completing a Gift Aid form will enable us to claim 28p in every pound donated.

We have also got a very special fundraising prize on offer…

    Cabride!

We have decided to offer a cabride on the first ever passenger run of D8233 as an auction on Ebay! This will be a unique experience to be the first member of the public to have a cabride in this unique locomotive when it works its first passenger run after restoration. There will be some conditions to meet and all will be listed on the page, if you don’t meet them then don’t bid. The auction is due to start at 2000 on Thursday 5th March and will finish at 2000 Sunday 15th March and will be listed by the seller ‘c15ps’. The lucky winner will receive a commemorative ‘Cab Pass’ with their photo on it and a certificate for the occasion as well as the cabride. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of preservation history.

I hope the whole of the preservation movement and rail enthusiasts can help us keep the restoration of one of the most historically important diesel locomotives on track by donating. And remember if you cannot aid us with money you can also help us by coming down on our working weekends (listed on http://www.d8233.org.uk) and volunteering your time in the restoration.

    Any questions please email publicity@d8233.org.uk

Thank you all in advance for you support at this difficult time for us.

    Where are you lads based?

It would be nice if you could bring it up to NNR for a gala sometime in the future... as the 15s operated along the M&GN region and around that sort of way!

    Good luck!! \:D/

A new add-on for Microsoft Train sim is now available to order from the class 15 website. This MSTS add-on features the 85-mile Infamous North Wales Coast route from Chester to Holyhead including the 3-mile branch to Llandudno and also featuring the isolated Holyhead breakwater railway. Set in the early to mid 1980's when BR blue was king and loco hauled ruled the rails; there is a full 24-hour timetable of activities that range in difficulty. The route is beautifully detailed by Making Tracks and there is a large amount of rolling stock to choose from, all with custom cab views and sound sets.
All money raiesed goes towards the restoration of D8233. Details are here:
