Trackside Magazine

+1 SR offered me a dicount on my subsription if i stayed with them.

 

Picked up the new issue of Trackside today in WHSmith. Really good issue. I noticed when I went shopping this afternoon that it is now also on sale in Sainsbury's.

Had to go into Town today, so called in WHS and bought a copy of the latest edition of the magazine. Not had much of a chance to read it so far, but it certainly seems to contain a lot of news items - something sadly lacking from SR of late. Hopefully they will not go down the road of the (unwanted, as far as I'm concerned) Model Rail pages or Railwayana price guides that SR seem to be heading into nowadays. If you want model rail information/features, you buy a one of the magazines covering that field - or is it just a cunning plan to get the likes of Hattons to take out advertising space in SR??
If they are able to keep up the current standard, Trackside will certainly be getting a Subscription from me to replace the one for SR next year....

 

Quite agree over that interview with Steve Davies. I have never given the magazine any benefit of any doubt since.

 

Discount! SR increased my subscription by 33% so I cancelled it. I'd bought every issue since it started but in the last 12 months it had gone down and down. I thought I might miss it ..... but I don't.

Sadly after over 40 years (since issue 1) I have ceased paying for Steam Railway - it has been dumbed down too far - I've cancelled my subscription from the next renewal - instead I've taken out a subscription for Trackside.

 

New issue out tomorrow with some interesting news about 4472/60103....

A livery debate! Oh how delightful!

 

The article says that the loco is only intended to run in single chimney and Apple Green until 2024, when the loco will return to the condition she's in now.

 

So even less reason to go and see it than there is now.

 

Why?

 

My least favourite locomotive and it looks awful in LNER apple green (as any loco does).
Just my own view of course.

I still can’t make up my mind about this magazine. It’s well produced but the structure seems a bit disjointed. More important it has a lot of non steam content in which I have zero interest. Having said that Steam Railway is not the same as it used to be. I have stayed with SR, probably out a a false sense of loyalty but they did use one of my pictures as a centre spread a couple of months ago.

 

I'm still a bit undecided, though I did cancel my Direct Debit for the SR annual subscription the last time I went near a bank, though the current sub to it doesn't end until September.
Will get this latest Trackside, as it has an article on the Nick Tinsley GCR rolling stock collection in it and will see how it pans out over the coming months.

 

Ive stopped buying magazines since Readly came along.

 

Anything is better than GWR cow pat green.

 

Now that Trackside seems to be here to stay, could a kind mod please move this thread to the Media section of NP along with the other magazines? (reporting my own post for mod attention)
