Looking at the youtube of Criccieth Castle it looks like the engine was misfiring or something... irregular beats and black smoke... hope not

The result of an electrical fault with the throttle proportionate control, apparently... Though what that means, I have no idea..!

I always look forward to your photo updates, Roger, and this is no exception!

The observation carriage is stunning and is ideal for the WHR.

One thing I've always liked about the FR is that it is not just a preservation society but an evolving company and not afraid to try new things.

It means there is a fault in the electrical side of the throttle proportionate control. Any dunce could have understood that #-o

Is it similar to an idle control valve or a Mass Air Flow sensor on a car? i.e. the engine is not maintaining revs but sucking in lots of air then closing the throttle?

Getting back to the Observation Car for a second, I was wondering what sort of hoops you have to go through to get vehicle approval for a new build such as this?

    Cheers

Pullman looks lovely. Hopefully should see it when I visit later this year

Re the Bridge crossing. When its done on a daily basis will there be traffic lights installed as it seems quite a few banksmen are needed at the moment to escort the Loco and carriages across the bridge, which I presume is not the long term solution ?

Actually, just two policemen were required to stop the traffic...

When regular operation commences road traffic will be halted by traincrew-operated flashing lights...

The new Ob. carriage looks stunning , well done to Boston Lodge. A good match for the other heritage carriages, what a lovely livery.
Shall definately be paying a visit or two again this year.

    Just out of interest

A question for anyone in the know.

When is the romanian carriage going to enter service? are there still plans to obtain a rake of these coaches as was mooted in the past?

2100 - New Pullman Observation Carr.
    2115 - Pullman Saloon 'Bodysgallen'
    2010 - New Service Car - (Guard/Toilet/Buffet)

Therefore, 2060 should be in service from 8th April for the Easter period - and will be used on the 08:00 ex-Dinas and 11:35 and 16:15* ex-Caernarfon trains.

    Phew...

*During the Easter period, the 16:15 train is rostered for double-heading by 'Castell Caernarfon' and 'Vale of Ffestiniog'... 700hp of 'Flying Funkeys' \:D/

Given the fact that it cost just as much as a new coach, is a pain to get into the car works, is hated by everyone who has had to work on it, looks awful, the windows fall out and the roof leaks, i doubt any more will be purchased.

Anybody with any sense will know that Romania is second only to India for its terrible railway equipment.

Is Boston Lodge still open by prior appointment - or has that all now finished due to Elf and Safety issues?

Was the Romanian coach really that costly and that much hated?
Do the windows really fall out and does the roof really leak?
If so why is it being put into service?
Indian railway equipment? didn't most of it originate from Britain?
    Cheers Bernard

But I heard that it rides better, has more legroom and and better views than the Winson/Blodge stock (new obs Pullman excepted)

The proof of the pudding will be in the riding! I, for one, will certainly give it a try when the opportunity arises. I shall let you know what I think. If anybody else rides in it, perhaps they could do likewise.

As I understand it, the idea is to gauge public reaction before deciding whether to go for a whole rake of them, so our opinions may help to influence that decision, be it for or against.

That is an absolute fine beauty. When the entire line is opened I think I'll have treat myself to ride in 2100. Probably after I've done some linesiding of the line :-D

I have it on the authority of someone in a position to influence decisions on such issues, a 'very' senior person in the FR organisation, that there will be no more. (As for why it was disliked, the same as anything else that is disliked in Boston Lodge, not invented here.)
