It was meant to do some work in South Wales on the Valley lines, but that never materialised sadly.

It wasn’t Pete Waterman, it was John Wilkinson who owned it at the time, it initially went to the WSR when restored for running in and was supposed to join the Tyseley fleet, primarily for working a local version of the Shakespeare expresses. John then sold it and it ended up staying on the WSR until the end of its ticket. I did a quick google and note that the listing on Preserved British Steam Locomotives is incorrect, showing it as purchased by Waterman in 1990 - it was later than that around 2003/4 that the ownership changed and it was already a working engine at that point.

I’d forgotten about that - also correct along with becoming Tyseley based, shame it never happened.

They have all done a good job to get it working again and I was saying well done to them. You must know that they haven’t done the work proply then.

Nope, but I didn't make any claims that they had or hadn't done 'a proper job on it'

A 'Proper Job' could also just be a way of saying "It looks very smart". I think may be reading into CoTF's original comment a smidge more than is necessary :)

The final Midland lamp tops have been fitted to the Rowsley station car park lamps, thanks to Ben,Richard,Dave And Dave that’s them all working now,

Elsewhere John,Andrew and myself spent the day looking at the darley gate rollers for repairs or renewal as they’ve been rolling for thirty years now ,we also took off the old gate lamps to get them cleaned down and the tin work repaired and repainted so put the temp lamps on we created years back when we last took them off for restoration, we also erected the exchange location cupboard and John has stripped it out ready, itl get repainted on a dry day

    and it didn’t rain,

The pway were sorting out stores and also got a chance to call in on Mr Briddon to say hello, the blue circle box van has recently been restored ,woodwork wise on one end and a new wooden floor fitted too.

A video created by Stuart showing some of the last years goings on has been put on the association website, link follows

    https://peakrailwayassociation.co.uk/rc_images/peakrail.mp4

The access road between the island at the entrance and the gates to ourselves at Rowsley should be well under way with its digging out and retarmaccing by now, a benefit to all those who remember the old access and the holes, can’t wait to see it finished.

Rowsley viaduct has had the brambles and foliage removed I’m told, keeping the structure safe from root encroachment , now if the national network could only do the same

on my own department we’ve started to fit out the telecoms loc that will take all the exchange cabling at Darley when we decommission the old grounded van exchange that’s served well for a good number of years, we also started replacing the Church Lane Signalbox walkboards for new boards with anti slip surfaces, that work continues .

That includes "hopefully you will get the chance to ride behind her again soon". Not in her? Are they going to motorise this unit and use it to pull something else? Or was that keyboard finger trouble?

So I'm gathering that the ride behind or in her will be at Scunthorpe, not Peak Rail?

Must say when I visited last september things seemed to be improving at peak rail.

The staff were very friendly & helpful, locos & stock were well turned out. Also the line itself looked to be getting some attention.

Hoping to be spending a fair bit more time up there starting this year once I've bought another motor I'm getting involved with andy rowlands & the team working on 50029 & 50030.

    s and t

Andrew and myself spent today repainting church lane crossing gates, the box handrails and the wicker gate

We also nipped up riverside and started to replace the walkway over the wires and rods, just the ramp boards and some more top planks to complete next time

    pway

the pway have finished relaying sleepers in darley loop, also a large foliage clearance work has recently been undertaken too around darley to
    Matlock.

Nice to see Peak Rail getting in on some national TV coverage with Ed Stafford’s program “69 days with the travellers” or similar…..
Nice little site they have set up in the Matlock station car park, with the rubbish dump located just over the fence on peak rail !

Hopefully the improvements will continue. PR has the opportunity to take a fresh look at the things it does well and the things that have held back progress. A quick win would be to embrace social media and use it as a positive tool for communicating with customers and supporters. I sincerely hope that efforts are made to inspire and welcome back absent volunteers and supporters.

Called in briefly this morning to make sure all was well signalling side after the recent storms, luckily it was and only a small gutter repair to one box to attend to, work will continue this week

in other news the roadway into Rowsley site is now tarmacced fully , a local group has also planted a thousand sapling trees in the field between the railway and the river derwent which is nice to see

Eustace is up on beams having its wheels overhauled and the 040 Deisel shunter being worked one in the shed is due to have its engine put back in soon, pway and lineside work continues.

with the cold weather it was good to see Rowsley box self tensioning weight system doing its thing , the NRM recently had a look at some things the railway and the LMSCA have been undertaking with some of the NRM stock etcetera, the lever frame and equipment having also been given by themselves to the railway so it’s good to show how it’s going

We stuck to darley work this morning as Matlock was flooded out, after rescuing a motorist (turned out one of the builders on the new estate) we replaced the lever one microswitch and also levelled up the blockshelf again and added some ducting before heading to Rowsley to do some
More electrical work and also put down some paving around Rowsley box

The pway were busy dismantling the old loading dock, in the shed the 040 shunter has had its engine now fitted and the 280 work continues, wheels
Having been needle gunned and primed up.

Eustace is awaiting its wheels going back in

Apart from that and the flooding and the high winds

Was “the old loading dock” where the HST started their brake van trips from?
