Surprised the quality of your shots is so high considering how long ago they were taken. What sort of camera have you used for this??

    My information and recollection was-
Clapham Transport Museum was in the former Tram depot situated on the south side of Clapham High Street but east of the junction of Clapham Park Road (close to Clapham Common tube station). I have not been there recently so do not know if the building survives today or what is on the site.
Most of its life it was open to the public Mondays -Saturdays but in later years it opened on Sundays as well. It closed around 1970 when many of the exhibits went to NRM York. Exhibits appropriate to London (trams, buses, trolleybuses. LT locos, etc) help to form initially a LT Museum at Syon Lane which subsequently moved again to its present site at Covent Garden in Central London.

This is a bit of a geeky question, but why does Mallard seem to have the Royal Headcode (lamp on every bracket)? Did it have a history of hauling the royal train or is it likely just to have been because it looked nice? I did warn you it was a geeky question...!

I visited my dad in London in 1969, and made him take me to Clapham. It was the first time I'd ever seen Mallard, and it had to be done.

Now I almost take her for granted as I enter the NRM, but she still is a sight to behold.

In those days the museum at York was in the big goods shed next to the station, and when my mate and I sneaked in there, Blue Peter and Bittern were in the roundhouse, now the NRM.

I have very similar pictures taken at Clapham Museum in 1963. The light inside was quite good and the exhibits were well positioned, not too close together. Instead of just duplicating the pictures already listed, I did get one of the Llanfair PG station nameboard at the actual station on Anglesey in July 1962. It must have been moved to Clapham not that long afterwards.

The picture is in the National Preservation Index gallery on my Fotopic site:
