LMS 7049?!? A LMS 0-6-0 diesel mechanical shunter?

Help required, see attached link and associated caption. This mystery locomotive is seen here at Steamtown, Carnforth on the 16th April 1979. Any further information gratefully received.

I cant give a definitive answer but I do know that many of the LMS diesels were taken straight into military service .This could be a WD example numbered with its intended LMS number in preservation. I doubt ANY oif them were red though

 

It's HE 2697/1944 'Tom Rolt' and was never an LMS engine. It was one of a number of items cut up on site at Carnforth in 2004.

 

That looked rather nice. Shame it got cut up. Would have looked quite nice alongside our LMS shunter at Middleton.

 

They cut up a rather nice little General Electric 45 ton Bo Bo at about the same time.

Personally I would prefer LMS 7050 from the NRM at Middleton sometime - it's not Leeds built but it would make a lovely pairing with LMS 7051 and bring out the Rod Cranks in force!!

Sadly don't think its operational.I asked about its condition when it arrived from Beverley with the now sadly departed TS.

 

Just because it is broken now doesn't mean it can't be mended though Miggy! Just need to cast some 'Flying Scotsman' plates for it and it will be done in no time...
