Thanks Tom. On that basis it is just as likely that the Bluebell's LSWR Brake Third (No. 1520) of 1910 or the NRM's Tri Compo Brake (No.6474) were used on these trains, which I very much doubt.

Whether or not these particular coaches were used on the Titanic boat trains, the fact they could have been has raised enough interest to save them from destruction. That has to be a good thing when LSWR coaches have fared so badly in preservation.

So where is the mystery restoration location I wonder?

Is the Ironclad planned to be restored in a similar timescale to provide a brake coach for the dining saloons? Or will a Mk1 or Bulleid brake coach have to be used initially?

Looking at Wikipedia (not exactly unimpeachable, I know) it appears that RMS Titanic sailed from Southampton with less than half of her passenger berths occupied. (179 1st Class, 247 2nd Class, 494 Steerage. 909 out of a capacity of 2,453.) I read somewhere that 3 Boat Trains ran from Waterloo, the first arriving at the White Star Dock (now Ocean Dock) at 9.30 am, and the 3rd (with 1st Class passengers) at 11.0 am, ready for sailing at 12.00 n. I would imagine that a fair number of the passengers may have come to So'ton direct and put up in, for instance, the South Western Hotel, and others travelled down via other routes. So, how many people travelled on the boat trains?
I won't hold my breath for an answer, but it would be interesting.

Not at the moment I'm afraid.

Things are moving slowly due to things outsde our control, such a bureaucracy, red tape and backlogs due to Covid and lockdowns - these things are not helping our cause, but we're hopefull that the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer, so that we can actually start to set things up and gain momentum.

Hope that helps in some way, and rest assured as soon as there is any news it will posted on here!

Teak shouldn't be a problem - they just need to talk to the LNER Coach Association (or me, who normally deals with sales), who currently have a big pile (albeit shrinking steadily) of the stuff!

Some updates on the website now, and photos of the wooden bracing being fitted in readiness for transport to Hampshire.

    Dear All,

Apologies for the prolonged silence, but things have been moving rather slower than we had hoped, until now that is!

One of the major hurdles we needed to overcome, has now been achieved.......

The trust has now gained charitable status with the Charities Commission as a CIO, This should now help us in our quest to get the two dining saloons back up and running, restored to their former glories!

Only 18 months after everyone else reported it!

So they definitely took passengers to the Titanic, and they will be restored to take passengers from London? The joys of modern journalism!

Interesting to see a photo of 69 in original condition though. Not seen that before. And some good publicity for the project.

Apologies for the 'radio silence', I can't get on here during the week due to working long hours, but we were caught unawares by the media releases - we had no advance warning!

Needless to say since then life has become a bit hectic and there is now a lot going on - details of which I cannot at this point in time go into, but should things pan out, and if the media don't beat me to it, then I will reveal all!

In the meantime, should you wish to help us, you can get yourself some merchandise here..... https://www.whitestarlines.co.uk/titanic-boat-train-heritage-trust-100-c.asp

Or make a donation here..... https://titanicboattrainheritagetrust.org/donations/donation-form/

The media do have a habit of hanging onto stories like this, and then suddenly slotting them in on a day they have a suitable size gap to fill.

Good to hear lots is going on behind the scenes. I’ll look forward to the update when things can be announced.

We will have a stand at next weekends Mid Hants gala, so if you are going, please do come and see us at Ropley in the picnic area where you can find out more about the project, and if so minded, make a donation to the project.

I had hoped to come on here and post that we're on the verge of moving the carriages from the P&B, but sadly at the last minute, the intended destination has basically fallen through for various reasons that I can't go into.

In a nutshell, we need to move the carriages asap....... and we are struggling to find somewhere!

So, to that end, I'm now posting more in hope than expectation, that someone on here knows someone, who knows someone, who has a buliding available, preferably in Hampshire, who would take pity on us and offer it at a peppercorn ren, or even gratis to begin with........

There are certain criteria that need to be met......

There needs to be good vehicular access - farms are a no no, and the place also needs to plumbed and wired in, plus being able to accommodate up to seven vehicles, but not all at the same time...........

I know its a long shot, but if you dont ask, you won't know.........

If anyone can point us in the right direction, please either PM me, or contact the trust directly - https://titanicboattrainheritagetrust.org/contact-us/

As ever donations are are always welcome....... https://titanicboattrainheritagetrust.org/donations/donation-form/ as as purchases from the shop...... https://titanicboattrainheritagetrust.org/shop/ or https://www.whitestarlines.co.uk/titanic-boat-train-heritage-trust-100-c.asp
