Strange comment since the most likely reason that you were 'more to less on time all day' was because there was some assistance given to ensure good timekeeping.

Perhaps waiting for sight of the signal at the end of the Up Fast platform with its (lit) junction indicator - perchance ?

The Bolton - Barrow train you mention (1C53) was coming off the Bolton line at Euxton Jn as the Jubilee approached you so the Jub's signal at Euxton Jn would be at red. Once 1C53 cleared the Jn. the Jub would get greens.

I considered most of the wrong possibilities whilst overlooking the right answer (and something that I was already aware of). Thanks for putting me back on the straight and narrow - for now! As it turned out Mr Kelly put on a good show for us and (understandably) the diesel helped.

Got around to editing my photo of this tour, going slowly following a late running service train just north of Hope.

Yes, from the bridge just north of the sidings. Needed my step to see over the hedge even at this time of year.
