On a different not i came across a pic of no 13 in the early 2000s just before her return to srvice and noticed that her chimney was a copper cap and no numerals, was this due to the chimney being newly aquired or was it just a repair and numerals awaiting refixing, just wondered as if it was new, could this open the possiblility of 10-12 receiving replica original chimneys with numerals at some point.

All the IMR Beyers were supplied with built-up, copper capped chimneys with brass numerals (as currently carried by 4 & 13). Even 16 (1926) has one albeit shorter. At some point replacement boilers began to be supplied with cast 'flower pot' chimneys without numerals. In recent years at least one of these (I forget which one) acquired chimney numerals. From a purist point of view only the built up chimneys should have numerals.

I understand that it is fully dismantled and needs a new boiler, cylinders, tanks and cab for starters. Apparently the bunker is O.K.!

wow, that’s a lot of work needed, hope this doesn’t stop any progress, but seems more like a major rebuild now, or has that always been the case?

I agree, the copper caps definitely suit the numerals better than the cast, would love to see thw cast chimneys replaced with original copper capped chimneys and numerals

Alas, wishful thinking then. I did wonder, based on the list of what was needed!

Oh, in the case of No.7, that's easy. I believe, due to collision damage, the frames are only useful as a pattern for new components. Uncertain about the condition of the cab's lower rear sheet, but it's paintwork and lining looked as they might need a once over, last time I saw it. Not sure if Mr.H's Railway & Tramway Trust has the wheels, whistle and name and works plates.

Safe to say, if Tynwald is ever to be seen in steam one piece again, it definitely needs some pretty comprehensive attention. Seems unlikely, but stranger things have happened, so never say never .....

isn’t one of Tynwald’s nameplates in the house of keys, could have sworn i’d read it somewhere but could be wrong, it’s a shame there couldn’t have been a cosmetic restoration on Tynwald, but seen as most bits were scrapped, that was highly unlikely before it was sold,

    I have wondered,

If there ever was the money/agreement/desire would there be enough spare or life expired components kicking about to cobble Tynwald back together as a cosmetic restoration?

Unlikely I know, but presumably there must be bits around?

No, a replica nameplate is in the Chief Ministers Office, the originals afaik went with the loco when it’s remains were sold

I’d imagine certain things being around, I wonder what ever happened with the driving wheels, i think it was Ray who said tgat when they were workkbg on Mona last week, a comoinent on her originally was on Tynwald as it was t’s works number

i’vw also wondered as to why Tynwald wasn’t returned to IMR ownership along with 5, 8 & 9
