I know at the K&ESR staff are NOT allowed to jump over the pits, as this could be dangerous.
I know of one or two who have fallen in over th years.

What is the policy on the various railways about jumping over the pits?

Even in pre H&S days I can't recall it being allowed.

It would make a good caption picture though .....

For jumping over pits you need to speak to an expert

    Danny Hopkins is your man

Danny can tell you the difference between a buffer from 1450 and the gap between 1450 and 9466

One stops you falling stops you falling into the pit

    The other does not

I also see Thomas poking his head out of the shed on a non Thomas day

As far as I am a aware this is a no no in the eyes of Hit Entertainment

Discipline time if you do it at Grosmont.

Likewise, strictly forbidden on mainline depots.

HOWEVER - rather than publishing that on here, which makes it look as though you're trying to score points over the guys in the picture, wouldn't you have been better having a quiet word with one of the KESR guys?

Now you have your answer, could you please consider removing the picture, before you drop the railway in the cart with the HSE?

The MHR don't allow this either! Pretty sure this lad was stretching over the pit - All the same still not allowed! At times with certain locos to clean I have had to stretch over the pit to clean the buffer beams and lowside of the tender.

RHDR take a more relaxed view on the question from what I've heard.

Not really sure i can see a point to this thread, jumping over pits seems to be a no no across the board, most likely said individiual has had a choice word or two said to him, and we move on hopefully not to repeat.

Jumping over pits is definitely a no, no, but I say that with the wisdom of age. As a lad, I used to do it regularly at such places as Farnley Jcn. It was just something you did.

Thats very bad press for the railway - mind taking it off before Colin Chambers sees it? I've been told he's already pretty angry with this website.

And also you are breaking copyright by having it on here. Perhaps you should take it off then? Pot calling kettle, hypocrite and all that.

    To back that up:
    Railways copyright policy.

While you are correct that admin should not have reposted it without permission, but if it is such bad publicity for the railway then you would think the MHR would remove it from their own website as a priority....

Its very easy for people who arent involved in working Railways etc to sit back and say he shouldnt do this etc.

You become very aware of this when you are on the footplate, shunting etc and is a reason why I know people who wont be rostered at Galas for exactly that reason.

Its hardly the end of the world, the worlds certinlay got bigger issues than this!

Stop having a go at the lad!
