    This from Preston Steam Services:
"We have three remaining O + K steam locomotives for sale, priced at GBP 35,000 each. They are painted red and are illustrated on our website.

The green loco now sold was slightly more complete hence the higher price.

All require restoration and the costs of this work would depend on the repair specification and the country in which the repairs are to be undertaken - anything from GBP20,000 upwards?
We do have a large quantity of spares for the locos which are available to purchase.

Locos can be inspected with us in Kent, UK by appointment."

If anyone is looking to form a consortium to buy one of these, please let me know by PM.

They've been for sale for quite a number of years.

Just did a search on the Wayback machine and it looks like the green loco (11309) which Martin reports is now sold, was on the Preston website in April 2003.
The red locos (10956, 10957, 12470, 13101) appeared on the site between Feb 2006 and May 2006.

The locos that remain have been stored for 13 years, (presumably in the open air) which won't have done them much good. I think £20k restoration costs would be very conservative. Add the £35k purchase cost (+VAT?) it would make for quite an investment, considering the presumably limited number of railways that could, or would want to operate such a large loco.

I wonder if the locos that have been sold have gone to UK based railways/owners?

I only have one of the 0-10-0 locos sold - 13101 (one of the four red ones) to China in 2018. As of today the other three red locos and the green one are all still showing for sale on their website.

As reported above by Preston, the green one has been sold. I guess they've not updated the website.

I think they'd be a mechanic's nightmare with all those gears. Slow, too.

Why would they be particularly slow, given decent track?

Would those gears be noisy? I can see heavy industrial use suiting these beasties, but how suitable for passenger services might they be?

If they were wanted for use on passenger services, I wonder if it would be feasible to removed the two idler gear wheels and run then as 2-6-2?

Based on looking at a few youtube videos of them in Java (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZWKiKiRxGhHnC1KSqxJIpDNbcSE8fY1I ) the gear noise is not noticeable, at least not above the general noise. Other than complexity/size, I am not sure why they would be unsuitable for pax services per se. The Chinese 28t / C2 locos had a fair turn of speed on 600mm driving wheels.

Wonder if you could re-gauge them to 3 foot or so?

There is a restored 1925 built example at the Frankfurter Feldbahnmuseum and a few YouTube videos show it in action. There is also a french forum website that discussed the luttermoller at length; initially discussing the Java examples but also the one that was part of the fleet on the Tramway de Pithiviers à Toury (nr 5-3?). Alas, I can’t remember where this forum was but from memory, whilst the maximum speed for the original 600mm O&K (German Army) version was 20 kilometres per hour, it’s normal rated speed was only eight. It was also rated at 90hp. The Preston versions for sale were built later with, it seems larger side tanks and without the well tank and so may have included other improvements which could have increased its performance. Versions for larger track gauges do appear to suggest greater speeds can be achieved but a standard gauge version (if any existed) would only have given a max speed of 45kph.

I have an update on the O+K 0-10-0s at Preston Steam Services.

11309 left for the Böhmetalbahn in Walsrode in November 2019. Out of all of them it was by far the most complete, and in the most original and best condition.

    http://www.heeresfeldbahn.de/lokomotiven/deutschland/en2t/173.html

13101 departed for the Republic of China before 07/2018, current status unknown, although the owner is a wealthy hardware magnette and recurring customer of P.S.S.

    10956 is now sold.

12470 is in the best condition of the remaining two, with by far the best frames/fewest cracks and the most complete set of motion.

PSS have expressed an interest in retaining 10957 as a wedding photo backdrop. The frames are cracked but not unrepairable.

Moderators, is it worth combining the two threads for these locos?

    Thank you for that update.

Do you know if Neilson & Co 0-4-0T No.4444 is still there?

On a slightly more narrow gauge related note, does anyone know the whereabouts of the 15” gauge Billie?

I believe at one point, when the new Dreamland was in the design stage, the was a proposal to include a loop of track but I’m guessing this is no longer planned.
