    Indeed, but presumably they could have done if someone at Swindon had felt so inclined. A bulldog with a No. 4 would look much like a City.

    Superficially perhaps - if you ignore the wheel diameter...

    Actually the Bulldogs were replaced on a lot of their turns with a loco with a number 4 boiler - the 43xx. The bulldogs were cascaded down to lesser duties, a process that was repeated when the Halls appeared in numbers. This demoted the 43s which made the Bulldogs largely redundant and bound for the Swindon scrap line - those that weren't diverted to become Dukedogs...

    No I do not currently volunteer
    RCTS states that lot 137 of Bulldogs was originally intended to have Std 4 boilers, but plans changed, and they got secondhand Std 2s instead.

    Presumably they would have looked something like this - All I did was replace the boiler and raise the cab slightly.

    Yes, the new No 4 boilers built for them were used to ugrade Aberdares instead.

    Of course... I looked at 4-4-0s and wondered where the Std 2s had come from: I forgot the Aberdares.
