Looking on saphos site the confirmed times are shown as Preston DPT 9.55 and arrive Carlisle at 12.30 which puts it around 15mins in front of the West coast charter

That knocks on the head any opportunity for WC to run early that they sometimes do.

Guessing it is Going to be Royal Scot. Think that 70000 is being saved until June. Would liked to be proved wrong. 34046 hasn’t been on the mainline this year so far. 45231 is the other option with 60007 remaining at SVR.

According to a LSL driver in the Cumbrian Coast Group on Facebook, it'll be 46100. 70000 will be on the SVR job end of the month according to LSL socials

That presumes a water stop en route - any indication where that will be (Carnforth perchance ?)

I think Barton loop has been a water stop in the past Fred .Also the last few Tours have also stopped at Grayrigg to let traffic through.

Can they top up at Preston beforehand? If so, with a 0955 departure and a 40 min gap to the next VT, a water stop at Penrith might be a possibility. In terms of pathing, that might work.

Could water at Oxenholme then David as I’m not sure if Saphos have watered at Carnforth before.

That is certainly a possibility Stephen.
If the 9.30 departure from Preston, shown as "confirmed" on the Saphos site is correct, the Tesco is very close behind, booked through at 9.39,so it may be necessary for the steam to go into Barton loop to let it past.We will just have to wait for RTT to add the timings !

UPDATE Saphos site now showing 9.55 off Preston so behind the Tesco anyway

I'm booked on this, so am eagerly awaiting the timings on RTT as well. The confirmed timings on the Saphos site keep changing, so there is obviously some last minute negotiations going on behind the scenes. Interestingly, I received my ticket on 19th March, 3 weeks ahead of the day, which is the furthest in advance I've ever received any ticket for a charter.

I would imagine that watering at Carnforth would be quite tricky without WCR co-operation and/or access to Steamtown either for the supply or a tanker, unless it could be done off Crag Bank Bridge I suppose?

Excuse my ignorance, is there a northbound loop at Oxenholme? Likewise its going to be fun having a cool start from Oxenholme, they often have enough issues with steam starting fresh from Carnforth.

Pity its 46100, no disrespect to her, but something different would have been nice round the coast, seems to be mainly a diet of Scots and Jubilees these days.

Only other shout would be the Black Five. Royal Scot over Shap seems rare these days. A shame 46115 is not in contention for the WCR trip. Two Scots over shap on the same day, is unheard of.

Re-read the timetable - particularly at Grayrigg where a stop is made between 10:55 - 11:38; a water stop perchance ?
