No chance to water at Grayrigg unless the tanker is on the hard shoulder of the M6 or they’ve got a five hundred foot pipe from the Southern end of the loop bridge :(They might get near enough via the NR access point but not sure how close that would get the tanker.

With no trains over Beattock it is going to be interesting times at Carlisle between 1200 and 1300! Eight mins to unload the Lakelander and eight again to dispatch the CME.

If they are watering at Grayrigg is that a first?

Indeed, considering the present issues with watering from tankers and the speed of said pumps, not sure piping water huge distances is really going to help.

I may have imagined it, but hasn't Preston carlisle been done without a stop in the past, plus won't it have a little helper attached which could assist if necessary and help save water?

Certainly Lancaster to Carlisle has been done without a stop, WCR Santa trains being the ones that come to mind, so I don't see a problem from Preston.
Should have added that this also included Carnforth to Lancaster and the same on the return.

Preston to Carlisle is (only) 90miles and that should be within the scope of a 3500 gallons tender although that doesn't leave much leeway.

I think that the Stanier tender holds 4000 gallons, it was the flat-sided Fowler tender of the original Scots that held 3500.

Hence why having a tail gunner could be helpful.

That would make a really nice change.

So at Carlisle you wait for months then 2 of those southern things arrive in the space of 15 minutes. ;) What is the world coming to?

Considering the state of 2022 so far, I say it's par for the course. ;)

Confirmed to be Braunton on the official LSL Facebook page. I've not been behind Braunton for about 4 years so I'm looking forward to it even more now.

So with Braunton and 4500 now available there should be no problem running the ninety miles without a top up.

I think you will find that it has a 5500gal tender. Main line Bulleids these days tend to suffer from a limited coal capacity on long tours rather than a limited water capacity.

I had hoped to get out to watch this one (followed by BIL) on the climb to Shap but domestic arrangements decided otherwise. I had to settle for a look at the engine and coach move from Crewe to Preston as it passes through Leyland. There had been an overnight frost but now the sun was shining. Braunton was booked thro' Leyland on the Down Slow at the same time as the Barrow - Manchester Airport service was due thro' on the Up Slow; stand on the Up platform (the sunny side) and risked being "bowled" or head for the shadows on the "safe" Down platform. As I was always much more likely to be out lbw than be bowled I chose the sunny side.

My gamble looked good as RTT showed Braunton was running 1E whilst the Airport service was RT. A few passengers were making their way onto the platforms which had been deserted when I arrived save for a single videographer. There was a cloud of steam in the extreme distance and slowly the shape of a smoke box came into view, 34046 was running with just a breath of steam. She came ever nearer, running at a comfortable pace, through the platforms her paintwork, and that of her support coach, gleaming in the low sunshine. Pretty as a picture (and no diesel!). 1-2E and 2 minutes before the Airport service flashed by. I hope that the trip goes well and am looking forward to all the photos and videos that will surely follow and what promises to be a nice day.

I seem to remember that when they started Saphos said something about not having long days like other tour companies do.
I guess if you did want a day out from Rugby to Carlisle today you would probably take the CME, but 05:50 to 23:29 makes the CME seem like a short day.
I seem to remember the tour in the week from the SVR was quite a long day as well.
